Preakness at the Piazza 2018 Raises Over $75,000 for MS Society

The 6th annual Preakness at the Piazza drew the most fashionable attendees on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Once again, crowds gathered at the Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons for the best live viewing of the 143rd Preakness Stakes in Philadelphia! The event committee is thrilled that over $75,000 was raised for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society this year.

As always, fashion is always a highlight of the evening. Guests got the chance to share their outfits with the stylish Gina Gannon of 6abc, who hosted the official red carpet. Gannon interviewed anticipated guests including Sheel Bhuta and David Tusio, Co-Chairs of Preakness at the Piazza 2018. Our honorable fashion judges awarded titles to the best-dressed of the event. This year’s judges were: Pat Gallen from CBS3, Howard Eskin from 94WIP, Jay Amin, Co-Owner of Damari Savile, FOX 29’s Alex Holley, Co-Host of “Good Day Philadelphia,” and Kristen Rodgers, Sports Anchor on FOX 29 News.

Once inside, guests discovered Andreotti’s returned to serve delicious southern-style fare. The buffet featured bourbon pulled pork sliders, Kentucky Hot Browns sandwiches, grilled veggie kabobs, sweet Kentucky Derby Pie, and more. Then, everyone knows Preakness at the Piazza wouldn’t be complete without the open bar. Of course, the fan favorite is Black-eyed Susans. It’s the official Preakness Stakes cocktail, made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka. EBE Entertainment provided the beats that kept guests dancing into the night, along with the fabulous Stephanie Lowery as host.

When the time came for the race itself, everyone had their eyes fixed on the Common’s 400-square-foot outdoor LED Screen. Although the Stakes’ racetrack was overrun by fog, it didn’t stop the crowd from cheering Justify across the finish line!

For those who indulged in the VIP experience, they enjoyed a special treat this year. The NFL Alumni sponsored the exclusive Preakness at the Piazza VIP lounge with Beasley Reece as the host. Fred Baxter and former Eagle Garry Cobb also joined to mix and mingle with attendees.

During the event, a handful of attendees stood out from the crowd. These winners of the highly anticipated fashion contest each scored a $200 gift card to Boyds Philadelphia!

While a few light drizzles were felt, Preakness at the Piazza never stopped for one second! The sixth year was the best yet, and the dancing and drinking continued long after the race concluded. Thank you to all the fabulous guests for proving Philadelphia knows how to party for a good cause.
