As we dive into March, the days will officially get longer (with Daylight Savings this weekend!) and hopefully warmer too. There’s so much to do and see in the city, including foodie events, great art programs, charitable causes, and of course, the parade! Don’t miss all that’s happening this week. Monday, March 5
  • Respected poet, writer and author, Bill Holmes will be bringing his talents to the eight week writing course Write Here! Write Now! The course begins at 6:30 p.m. at CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia.
  • King Of Prussia Restaurant Week begins today through March 11. 28 different area restaurants are offering special pricing for lunch and dinner. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s King of Prussia Specialty Care Center.
Tuesday, March 6
  • Culinary historian Michael Twitty made news with his Paula Deen takedown on Twitter. Join him as he explores his roots with his grandmother’s version of Country Captain, a chicken dish inspired from South Asian and southern plantation kitchens. This program is presented by the Free Library’s One Book, One Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
  • As a part of the 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show, a host of organizations have come together for Philadelphia & The Farm Bill Town Hall. Hear diverse voices from our local farming sector, nationally recognized nonprofit and for-profit stakeholders, renowned leaders in academia, youth leaders, and elected officials.
Wednesday, March 7
  • Philadelphia Art Week begins today through March 11. This five day art exhibit will feature some of Philadelphia’s finest artists and craft makers, and is free to the public! Register here.
  • Join the Independence Business Alliance* at IBA Intersections at AAMP. Learn about the impact that African American, Black, and LGBTQ professionals can have in the workplace and the ability to change the narrative of under representation in the community.
  • BalletX Spring Series 2018 begins today and runs through March 18. Held at The Wilma Theater, the new series will feature world premieres by choreographers Trey McIntyre and Darrell Grand Moultrie, as well as Matthew Neenan’s Increasing (2014).
Thursday, March 8
  • For their 12 Weeks of Giving program, Stratus Rooftop Lounge is hosting a happy hour and donating proceeds towards a different cause each week. Join us in supporting MS Society’s Preakness at the Piazza.*
  • Power Street Theatre Company presents Las Mujeres by Erlina Ortiz, a play focused on the voices of marginalized womyn from Herstory’s past. In honor of Womyn’s Herstory Month, this powerful performance will “preserve our herstories, defend our womynhood and share culture, through art for social change!”

Friday, March 9
  • The ballet masterpiece Swan Lake runs at the Kimmel Center through March 18. Beautiful and elegant movement will create a performance of true grace in this spectacular production.

Saturday, March 10
  • As part of Women’s History Month, the National Constitution Center will host a variety of events and exhibitions including Girl Scout Day. This is the best place to discover more about American history, government, and citizenship.
  • Enjoy a day of fun for the whole family at the 33rd Annual Leprechaun Run beginning at 7: 30 a.m. The 5-mile race, Lucky 7-mile race and 2-mile fun run/walk all raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s local chapter.
  • Grand Opening at Aunt Mamie’s in West Chester kicks off at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by the mayor of West Chester. Enjoy fresh homemade pasta, as well as locally produced foods from Sorelle Cucina, Cocky Gourmet Confections, and Sweet Ladybug Bakery.
Sunday, March 11
  • Daylight Savings Time begins, so don’t forget to “spring” your clocks forward!
  • The 2018 Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at noon in Center City at 1 p.m.! Wear green and show your Irish (and/or Eagles) pride! Get out and enjoy a day full of fun and celebration.
  • Once a month, The Good Good Comedy Theater invites a favorite Philadelphia comedian to do a full hour set for the first time ever. Catch Alejandro Morales, host of Eat Your Beats in this hilarious special sure to bring laughs!
