Philadelphia’s music scene and artists are unlike any other city’s in the country. With new vocalists and bands being discovered every day, we sat down with our friends at REC Philly to show you a list of a few of our favorite up and coming local artists. Pay close attention to these folks on the rise who are making a name for themselves and a mark on the industry.
Anna Shoemaker* is a 21-year-old singer and songwriter, who just released her first music video, “About You,” this summer. You can catch this Indie-pop star live at Philly’s upcoming Manayunk’s StrEAT Festival on September 18 and at Melelani Cafe on November 24.
Former lead rapper for hip-hop trio, ‘Ground Up,’ Alexander Charles branched out from the group to pursue a career as a solo artist. Check out his first solo music video, which he shares as “just a taste of what’s to come” in his solo journey!
Hardwork Movement* is a diverse hip-hop group comprised of nine talented artists who had a sold-out opening night at Key Fest. They also received a recent signing to Chill Moody’s niceTHINGS music label, so this is definitely a group to take note of. Check out where they will be performing next (hint this weekend), by following their Facebook page.
The R&B vocalist group, Good Girl, not only slayed their America’s Got Talent performance earlier in 2016, but have continued to make a name for themselves in the music industry. From releasing a new single to headlining at the TLA on September 1, these four ladies are taking the music industry by storm! P. S. Did you catch them on FOX29 with our friend Alex Holley?
Julian King* is a multi-faceted artist with killer vocals, dance moves and piano and bass guitar skills. According to his Instagram, he’s your “favorite black and Japanese singer, dancer and musician from Philly,” already racking up over 11K followers. Be sure to keep up with his most recent music and shows on his website!
