GIDDY UP! On Saturday May 7th, 2016, people will gather in the conservatory of West Laurel Hill Cemetery to watch the 142nd Kentucky Derby! The West Laurel Hill Derby Party, now in its 4th year, has quickly become the event of the spring season, and a signature event for West Laurel Hill.
Guests are encouraged to don their finest derby inspired clothing. Ladies: Floppy Hats, and bright floral dresses! Don’t forget your pearls so you have something to clutch while rooting for your favorite horse. Long white gloves aren’t necessary, but hey, when in Rome. Gentlemen, bust out your Sunday best! Suits, bowties, and suspenders. Bonus points if you actually know how to tie your bow tie, and let’s face it: any adult man should know how to tie one! Be sure to check out this link from the Art of Manliness on how to tie one.
Once inside, guests will be treated to a feast fit for any derby king or queen. Dinner is being catered by Feastivities Events, while derby themed desserts will be served by none other than Cupcakes By Ruth. To help get you into the spirit of things there will be live music from The Red Hot Ramblers, a 1920s Prohibition Jazz Ensemble that’s sure to get your feet moving. If you need a little inspiration, don’t worry, complementary mint juleps along with other cocktails will get you up and dancing! Don’t get too sweaty though, Instashack Photo Booth will be on premises to capture all of your memories so you can bring them home and brag about your amazing afternoon, and how adorable you looked!
Speaking of looking adorable, we’ve got some of Philly’s Phinest (see what we did there?) there to go through the crowd and pick out the best dressed male and female! Prizes will be awarded, so make sure whoever tells you that you look amazing isn’t lying to you before you leave the house. Our fashion judges are: Bex, morning show host from 96.5 AMP Radio, Blogger and Fashion Vixen Brittiny Adams of Fashion Of Philly, television host and bonafide Kentucky Colonel, Pat Nogar, and Geno Vento from Philly’s award winning Geno’s Steaks!
By now we bet you’re asking, “How many arms and legs do I have to pay to get into the event of the spring?” To you, we say, $45. Yes, ONLY $45 dollars! And get this, all of the proceeds go DIRECTLY to Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy Inc. Since 1997, Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy, Inc. has helped hundreds of children and adults with disabilities. From adults with severe spinal cord injuries and children with autism, to individuals with developmental difficulties and youth at risk, their students have made tremendous strides in improving the quality of their lives through therapeutic horseback riding.
So hurry up and grab your tickets. The event is on Saturday May 7th, from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at West Laurel Hill Cemetery!
Looking forward to being apart of the up coming events
