Cancer is among the leading causes of death all over the world and it is rare to find someone who hasn’t been affected by the disease in one way or another. Within a single year, 1,658,370 new cases will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone, while 589,430 people will pass at the hand of this disease; that’s roughly 1,615 people per day.
It can be difficult to determine the best way to reach out and help in the fight against cancer, especially with so many different options to choose from. The truth is, every little bit counts – even sparking a conversation. However, people can often become uncomfortable, almost hesitant, when faced with the topic of life-threatening illnesses. Luckily, Cocktails Against Cancer returns with its annual fundraiser on September 19, to show the public that it’s okay to laugh in the face of fear while enjoying an evening with family and friends… and, of course, cocktails!
Cocktails Against Cancer is a local nonprofit organization that hosts an annual charity fundraiser to raise money and awareness for organizations that directly impact those currently battling cancer in Philadelphia. Absolutely ALL proceeds, including year-round online donations, will go to various organizations to provide research, treatment, and quality of life to those in need throughout our city. Cocktails Against Cancer’s 2015 beneficiaries include:
- Philadelphia Ronald McDonald Camp for Kids with Cancer
- Cancer Support Community of Philadelphia
- Pediatric Cancer Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
- Make-A-Wish of Philadelphia & Susquehanna Valley
- Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania
- Fox Chase Cancer Center
Last year’s seventh annual event raised a record-breaking $15,000, moving the needle up to a total of $60,000 gifted since 2008! This year, the committee plans to outperform 2014’s numbers. These donations continue to make a huge difference throughout the Philadelphia community, positively impacting the lives of those who need help.
Cocktails Against Cancer will be held at the Old Pine Community Center at 401 Lombard Street, and this year’s event has a fun, county fair theme! Slide on your best boots and help kick cancer’s ass on Saturday, September 19th from 7 to 11 p.m. For only a $50 advanced ticket donation, you can enjoy great food, music, raffles, cocktails, and entertainment. Guests are highly encouraged to dress in Western attire and costumes; after all, you have to look the part while square dancing the night away!
