March Madness is a beloved phenomenon that happens throughout the month of March every year during the NCAA College Basketball Tournament. This synchronized frenzy is madness because there are so many games going on throughout the country, and usually around the same time! The excitement and anticipation of teams vying for that number one spot and teams heading home after losing, all add to the uncertainty which causes this organized chaos.
Each round played in the tournament has a specific name; third round with 16 teams left is called Sweet 16, second round is Elite 8, and then there is the Final 4. Participants will set up brackets to see which “Cinderella” team will snatch the tournament at the end of the season. This is usually what workplaces filled with basketball nuts consist of – seeing how everyone’s teams are doing, and who has a shot at being the champion!
If you plan on following along – or are just looking for an excuse to go out – here are some March Madness events happening in Philadelphia!
- Lady E Entertainment presents their first annual March Madness music concert on Sunday, March 22nd from 7 p.m. – 2 a.m.! Local artists will come out to perform at Jtor Events Venue in Sharon Hill, PA, where there will be free giveaways, raffles, vendors and more. Tickets are $20 online.
- Varga Bar will be hosting each viewing of the game while supporting local breweries and their tasty beverages. Starting promptly at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 11th, Varga is hosting Tröegs vs. Sly Fox. Don’t miss out on some sweet brews while watching!
- In the spirit of March Madness, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Chestnut Hill will offer bacon-infused madness from Thursday, March 19th through Sunday, March 22nd. There will even be a chocolate-bacon layer cake! Say no more.
- Rembrandt’s Restaurant & Bar in Fairmount will host “Brackets & Beers” on Tuesday, March 17th. Fill out a bracket before the games begin for eligibility to win prizes. If you come in wearing your team’s colors, you can enjoy $10 Yuengling Lager pitchers and specials on food!
- Pub Webb has your game nights covered until the end of the tournament. With specials on food and drink and big screens all around, this bar will have the hook up for the First Four on March 17-18th, Second-Third rounds on March 19-22nd, Regional Semifinals/Finals on March 26-29th, National Semifinals on April 4th, and the Championship on April 6th!
