HERE’S WHATS GOING ON THIS WEEK IN PHILLY:

Monday, March 10

  • Movie Monday – Catch the blockbuster sequel, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, for just $3 at the Trocadero. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie starts at 8 pm. Bonus: that admission price goes towards a snack or drink at the bar! 21+ only.
  • Pig Tapas Tasting – Due to popular demand, a second night was added to Jamonera’s specialty tapas tasting. Be sure to make your reservation to sample these 10 delicious variations by Chef Lindsay McClain.

Tuesday, March 11

  • Cirque Eloize’s “Cirkopolis” – One of the leading troupes in circus arts hailing from Old-Montreal, Cirque Eloize is coming to the Merriam Theater for five performances of “Cirkopolis”. In this creatively produced circus, dance and theater show, 12 acrobatic performers defy the sea of sameness, imposed upon by the mechanical society of their factory-city, that plagues their work environment.
  • The Irish Rovers Farewell Tour – Say goodbye to this legendary group that has been entertaining and acting as ambassadors of Irish music on a global scale for 50 years. Their final tour takes them to the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA, where tickets are $29.50 – $37.50.

Wednesday, March 12

  • Nerd Nite at Frankford Hall – The Franklin Institute’s after hours events move to Northern Liberties for a night where local scientists and experts team up with Franklin Institute science explainers to talk about the museum’s current exhibit, Pompeii. $5 cash at the door, for 21+ only.
  • Skin & Bone – Watch the world premiere of “Skin & Bone”, the second of three contemporary Southern gothic plays by Jacqueline Goldfinger. Azuka Theatre’s show begins at 8 pm at the Off Broad Street Theater on 16th and Sansom.

Thursday, March 13

  • Broad Street Broad Pitchers and Catchers – Celebrate the Spring season start up with a Happy Hour at the Philly Phaithful Showroom. From 5 to 8 pm, imbibe in Lemonade, Mojito, Sangria and Ginger Fizz, provided by the world’s first Acai spirit, VeeV. Get your own takeaway mason jar with goodies and giveaways, and enjoy discounts on all female and male sports apparel. Free to attend; RSVP online to save your spot!
  • Fauré’s Requiem – Alain Altinoglu conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra’s performance of Gabriel Fauré’s famed composition, Requiem op. 48, in three performances this week. This complex, dark and spiritual piece includes a choir and full organ to imitate styles ranging from Medieval chant to antiphonal brass.

Friday, March 14

  • Ellie Goulding – The synth-loving British pop star stops at Temple’s Liacouras Center on her 2014 tour. The show begins at 8 pm, and tickets are $35 to $39.50.
  • QTPIT Pot Luck – Whether or not you are in the trades or identify as trans/queer, all are welcome to network and break bread at the Ahimsa House at 5007 Cedar Ave. Share your experiences, discuss logistics and brainstorm ideas for this small collective that meets every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.

Saturday, March 15

  • Saint Patrick’s Bar Crawl – Spend your Saturday with Philly PR Girl at the Piazza at Schmidt’s! From 12 to 9 pm, Piazza bars like Crabby Cafe & Sports Bar, King’s Oak, PYT, and Gunners Run are offering specials like $4 beers, $5 Jameson and $7 car bombs. Tickets are $5 (price will go up) – Plus at 2pm you can witness the “shave drive” as volunteers shave their head for St. Baldrick’s Foundation!
  • Vintage Kicks Record Release Show – Punk band Vintage Kicks release their second EP, Suburban Sunshine, at Kung Fu Necktie.
  • Annual Storybook Ball – Parents and kids alike are welcomed to dress up as their favorite storybook characters to attend this year’s Storybook Ball at the Please Touch Museum. Enjoy themed entertainment, food, a dance party, and more from 6 to 9 pm. Individual tickets are $45 and the family four pack is $160.
  • Masquerade Ball – Celebrate Purim at the National Museum of American Jewish History in costume or cocktail attire. $15 tickets for members and students, or $30 for non-members, include beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment from DJ Bruce.

Sunday, March 16

  • Wine and Cheese Pairing – Learn how to compliment your favorite wines and cheeses from Crossing Vineyards & Winery’s weekly class. $40 tickets include instruction and tasting beginning at 2 pm.
  • 2014 Leprechaun Run – Benefitting the Special Olympics Philadelphia and the 20,000 Special Olympics athletes who call Pennsylvania home, this year’s run starts at 9 am at The Navy Yard. Walkers and runners are all welcome to participate in the 5 mile course or 2 mile “fun run”.
  • Philadelphia Wings vs. Rochester Knighthawks – Catch the game with a special St. Patty’s Day Package, which includes 1 Wings ticket, 1 Wings green pint glass, and a $10 Xfinity Live gift card. The match starts at 4 pm at the Wells Fargo Center, and tickets range from $10 to $75.
