Monday, May 6th

  • Movie Monday at the Troc presents: Silver Linings Playbook
  • All Mozart – The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia performs a three-night engagement of pieces by the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus, conducted by Dirk Brossé, featuring Elissa Lee Koljonen on violin and Roberto Diaz on viola.
  •  Slow Food Philly screens “Eating Alabama” – In search of a simpler life, a young couple returns home to Alabama where they set out to eat the way their grandparents did – locally and seasonally.  This free screening will begin at 7 pm at the Rotunda; seating is first come, first served.

 Tuesday, May 7th

  •  The Art of Golf – In honor of Philadelphia’s hosting of the 2013 US Open Championship, The Philadelphia Museum of Art presents works on the history of one of America’s favorite past times. The exhibition is open now through July 7th with admission to the Museum (which gives patrons access for two consecutive days to the main Museum building, Perelman Building, Rodin Museum, and Historic House Mount Pleasant)!
  •  He’s My Brother She’s My Sister – The western-tinged, folk-rock ensemble with a touch of vaudeville glamour will be bringing their expanded (and slightly experimental) new show to North Star Bar on Tuesday evening. Coming off a tour opening for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, the band will be testing new material for an album along with their fan favorites from their recent self-titled EP.
  •  Adult Ballet Class – The Pennsylvania Ballet offers open adult ballet classes to individuals of all experience and ability levels on Tuesday and Thursday nights through June 15. Take five classes for $80; ten for $150, or sate your curiosity with a single class for $18. Class packages also count towards Wednesday night pilates classes.

 Wednesday, May 8th

  •  Moore College of Art & Design Senior Show – Pieces by seniors graduating from Moore’s Bachelor of Fine Arts programs are on display at The Galleries at Moore, now until May 18th. The works shown represent all undergraduate majors from Art Education, Curatorial Studies, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design and Photography, and Digital Arts.
  •  38th Annual Bucks County House Designer House and Gardens Tour – This year, the Clement Doyle House in Doylestown will be filled with 27 design areas inside the manor, and surrounded by 17 landscaped gardens. Tickets are $25 at the door, and $20 for seniors.

Thursday, May 9th

  • Morgan’s Pier is opening back up!
  • Miss Pennsylvania USA Send Off – Jessica Billings, crowned as this year’s Miss Pennsylvania USA, is off to prepare for the Miss USA pageant in June – but not before one last party in Philly! Wish her off at Valanni (12th and Spruce) from 7 to 9 pm.
  •  Milou: Beyond the Canvas – Work from the famed pop artist Perry Milou will be on display at TRUST in a 20 Year Retrospective, with 10% of all benefits profiting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). Click here for more details.
  •  OurNightOut – Happy hour from 6 to 8 pm at the Pyramid Club will be hosted by the Our Night Out and the LGBT community. Be sure to make a reservation for you and your friends!

 Friday, May 10th

  • Center City Jazz Festival (Friday & Saturday) – This sounds like a blast!  
  • Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta’s Diamond Jubilee – There’s no better year to cheer on Philly’s teams, as this weekend marks the 75th annual Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River! Admission is free on Friday and Saturday, as are the shuttle busses from parking lots to the the Philadelphia Art Museum/Boat House Row, available from 6 am to 7 pm.
  •  Spy: The Secret World of Espionage – Just opened on May 4th, the Franklin Institute’s newest exhibition features over 200 historical artifacts that delve into the life and work of CIA agents and undercover spies.
  •  “Lend Me A Tenor” at Act II Playhouse – “Lend Me a Tenor” is a madcap screwball comedy that takes place when the fiery-tempered and world famous Italian superstar Tito Merelli goes missing just as he’s to make his debut with a local opera company.  Tickets are $22 – 33 at the Act II Playhouse in Ambler, PA, extended by popular demand through June 8.

 Saturday, May 11th

  •  Spring Fair – As a Mother’s Day treat, this weekend is Fitler Square’s Annual Spring Fair at 23rd and Pine Street. Admission is free on Friday (10 – 6 pm) and Saturday (10 – 4 pm) for adults to participation in a silent auction, walk around the fountain, browse tables full of gently used books, herbs and flowers, kids’ clothes and games, and baked goods.
  •  Animal Lovers Lecture: Training and Behavior Tips for Pets – Penn Vet will conduct a special lecture at the Working Dog Center using dogs to demonstrate training and behavior tips. The class is free, but reservations are required.
  •  Beautiful Without Permission: Celebrating the Literary Achievements of Black Women – As part of May’s festival Celebration of Black Writing, each Saturday, the Art Sanctuary will hold a lecture series on an individual literary artists. Saturday, the 11th pays tribute to Nina Simone and performance poet and author Debra Powell-Wright, with readings and performances from collection contributors. Pre-registration is required.

 Sunday, May 12th – Happy Mother’s Day!!!

  •  Fine Craft Fair – The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftman Fine Craft Fair is taking place from May 10-12 in Rittenhouse Square. 140 craft artists will be attending, bringing everything from jewelry and clothing to pottery and furniture, all handmade from raw materials. Check out a preview of some of the crafts you’ll be seeing here.
  • Phillies – The Phils take the D-backs at 4:10 pm, and we’re willing to bet there are still some open seats.
  •  A Taste of Northern Liberties – Eat your way through one of Philly’s undiscovered foodie meccas from 1:30 to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays for $44/person. Your foray into NoLibs includes tasty treats at 5 fantastic hotspots, the inside story about some local architectural gems, and a great intro to a few of your new favorite haunts! This adventure includes enough food for lunch, and is served up with a generous helping of humor and a side of neighborhood history through a bubble tea joint, Thai restaurant, a retro bowling alley, Tex-Mex hangout, and neighborhood coffee shop.
  • Art Star Craft Bazaar – Art Star Gallery & Boutique’s outdoor retail arts and craft show will be held at Penn’s Landing on May 11th and 12th from 11 to 6 pm. Live music, food, and arts demonstrations will accompany over 100 vendors in entertaining and fascinating with paper crafts, sculptures, printmaking, jewelry, claymation, textiles and accessories.
