Tucked away in Bala Cynwyd with a scenic view of Philadelphia, West Laurel Hill sits on 187 acres of rambling hills, beautiful foliage and gorgeous mausoleums. Since 1869, this living cemetery has served thousands of Philadelphians who call it their final resting place.
Now, it may sound weird at first… but events at West Laurel Hill are growing more and more popular. This cemetery is quickly becoming the go-to place for FUN and FUNDraising. (See some of our previous events there.) They are a non-profit organization that loves throwing events for other local non-profits. This isn’t something you see every day, which is what makes West Laurel Hill so unique. Outside of their beautiful grounds, they have a dedicated staff that not only serve families of the deceased, but they serve their community as well.
With a jam-packed events calendar for the fall, here are several reasons why you’ll want to visit the fascinating West Laurel Hill.
IBA ConnX Garden Party
September 13 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Don your dapper picnic looks and join in on a garden party like no other. This scenic ConnX event will feature food, beverages and of course, quality networking with the local LGBT business community. Free for IBA members and $15 for non-members. Register today via the IBA website!
Woof and Wag
September 17 10am – 12pm
Calling all four-legged friends…our signature pet event is back for another year! Join West Laurel Hill & Pals For Life for a morning of entertainment for pets and parents alike. This year’s event will include a pet-friendly walking tour of the grounds that features some of our favorite pet stories. A $10 donation is suggested and will be collected at the door.
Tales from the Tomb
September 24 9:30am – 11:30am
West Laurel Hill has one of the most extensive collections of private family mausoleums on the East Coast. Join us for a rare behind-the-scenes look at some famous notables, the flora and fauna on the grounds, as well as make stops to see the interiors of the most unique mausoleums. Tickets are $25 and include a light brunch before the tour and refreshments.
Murder Mystery
October 15
Who dunnit?! Join us for an evening of mystery and mayhem of a Murder Mystery in the Conservatory. Admission is $45 until September 15, and then prices go up to $55. Tickets includes a cocktail hour and light bites.
Chocolate Tasting
October 20
Learn about Philly’s rich chocolate history. This events is complete with delectable chocolates from Shane Confectionary, which will be paired with cocktails! Tickets are $30 in advance.
Run 4 Your Life
October 22 4pm – 9pm
You never know what lurks around the corner as you set out to complete Run4UrLife! Held on the historic grounds at sundown, this unique event features ghouls and terrifying creatures on the course as runners make their way through the cemetery! All proceeds for this 3k scary fun run will benefit MANNA. Registration fee is $30.
