What’s going on This Week in Philly…

Monday, May 16

  • On Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., take part in a series of free meditation and yoga workshops. If you would like to focus on reducing stress, enhancing awareness and overall well-being, the Free Library of Philadelphia is the place to do it!

Tuesday, May 17

  • Star of NBC’s Smash and Wicked on Broadway, Megan Hilty will be gracing audiences with her magical presence at the Merriam Theater. The event is part of Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Concert Series, and is set to take place at 8 p.m.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region is hosting its first-ever Lip Sync Battle Royale event at the Stratus Rooftop Lounge of Hotel Monaco. Join together from 6 to 9 p.m. to witness local organizations take center stage and lip-sync their hearts for a chance at the title of Lip Sync Battle Royale Champion! Tickets are $45, and includes admission, two free cocktails, and light bites. 100% of ticket sales will benefit the mission of BBBS Independence.

Wednesday, May 18

  • The CD Release Party for Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Vesper dining club! This event is part of the Jazz It Up Philly lineup taking place all week long. Check out more information on this and other events here!

Thursday, May 19

  • From May 19 to 22, Titus takes the stage of the Painted Bride Art Center. PA Performing Arts for Young Audiences (PAPAYA) introduces audiences to Titus. He’s a 10 year-old boy on the edge – literally on the roof of his school – confronted by a problem that seems unsolvable. Don’t miss this compelling story about telling big lies and small truths; about running away and finding yourself.
  • Starlet comedian Margaret Cho returns to Philadelphia for a special show at the Helium Comedy Club! Catch her Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Tickets are available online only to patrons 21 and over!

Friday, May 20

  • The Penn Museum is showcasing a program, Conserving Egyptian Mummies, that is part exhibition and part working laboratory. It allows visitors to see various archaeological tools and watch as conservators work on a number of Egyptian funerary objects. The museum’s staff will open their windows twice a day to answer questions from visitors.
  • Steel Owl Room Adventures presents Escape The 1980s, Philly’s largest room escape game and a pop up experience here only through June! Players have 60 minutes to get through a fully interactive, 80s themed mini-mall. (You don’t need to know anything about the 1980s to play!)

Saturday, May 21

  • More than just a fundraiser, the 4th annual Preakness at the Piazza is an unforgettable party that celebrates the Preakness Stakes, derby fashion, and raises awareness for multiple sclerosis.   • Hang out on Trenton Avenue from noon until 6 p.m. for the annual Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival! From Norris to Dauphin, the street will be filled with a parade of kinetic sculptures up for recognition of Best Art, Best Engineering, Best Costume, Best Breakdown and People’s Choice!
  • We welcome Sly Fox aboard for a great beer tasting cruise. At Sly Fox, it’s all about the beer.
