Dining Out for Life Hosts 3rd Annual Food Truck Round Up

One of the first things I think of when I think about Philly is… THE FOOD! How could you not?! From cheesesteaks and pretzels to cafes and food trucks, Philadelphia is known for its comfort cuisine. But there is another thing that Philly is known for other than just great food, and that’s brotherly love. Cue the 3rd Annual Food Truck Round Up, a fulfilling marriage of these two local elements.

Today from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m., fabulous food trucks lined up at 13th and Locust to feed hungry Philadelphians and donate 33% of all sales to ActionAIDS. The event was part of Dining Out for Life, a nonprofit organization founded in 1991 by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. Today marked the 25th Anniversary of Dining Out For Life! The annual fundraising event raises money for AIDS service organizations and provides a sense of togetherness throughout the community.

The streets were packed and the lines were long, but the food was definitely worth it! Among the various food trucks that participated, we decided to go with Mac Mart – Philly’s first and only mac ‘n cheese food truck – and the Farm Truck, a Philadelphia based food truck and mobile farmers market committed to serving up fresh and local food! Other trucks that participated in the event were Vernalicious, The Cow & The Curd, Foo Truck, Gigi’s & Big R, Cupcake Carnivale, Chef Johnny Bravo’s Surf n Turf, and Schmear It.

These vendors aren’t the only ones donating to the cause; more than 200 restaurants across the Delaware Valley will also donate 33% of the night’s proceeds to benefit men, women, and children with HIV/AIDS. ActionAIDS was founded in 1986 with the mission that no one should face AIDS alone, and they are proving year after year that what they do is working. Over $4 million dollars gets raised annually to support the missions of 60 outstanding HIV/AIDS service organizations throughout North America. Dining Out For Life is now produced in 60 different cities throughout the United States and Canada!

If you didn’t make it to the Food Truck Round Up, you might not have a Dining Out For Life brochure with a list of all of the restaurants participating tonight. But that’s okay! Just click this link for a full map of participating locations!

Be sure to take part in this amazing opportunity to give back to the Philadelphia community and enjoy some great food at the same time! Where will you be dining tonight?
