Monday, January 5th

  • Travel back in time with the Philadelphia Center for Architecture to see how toys have developed over the past 150 years! Constructing Play: Building Classic Toys showcases a fun and vibrant collection of toys, with hands-on carts and family workshops scheduled through the exhibition’s run. Visit now through January 29th!
  • Descend to the New Year Quizzo – After a nice holiday away, get your brain back in action with a round of quizzo at Tavern on Camac! Gather ‘round the piano and grab dinner at 6 p.m. Quizzo begins at 9!

Tuesday, January 6th

  • Motown: The Musical opens at the Academy of Music with the true American story of Motown founder Berry Gordy, who launched the smash-hit careers of Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and many more! Tickets range from $20 to $115, and the show runs from January 6th through the 18th. *

Wednesday, January 7th

  • Impact Hub is opening its doors to the public on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. Get some work done at their space in South Philly – there’s no cost for entry. Then afterwards, join Impact Hub’s members and fellow co-workers for a glass or wine and networking during their weekly Wine Downs, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • This month, Kriss Mincey hosts Sittin’ In; the Kimmel Center’s free recurring jam session. Join American Idol and DO School Alum Recording Artist Kriss Mincey at 7 p.m. for a dance party with a unique lineup of talent that will include a live performance of Mincey’s unreleased single, “Otherwise”, played on Wired 96.5. 

Thursday, January 8th

  • The Flyers host the Washington Capitals in this National Hockey League matchup. The game starts at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center, and tickets run from $45-200.
  • See “Canada’s ambassadors of musical diversity” perform Upstairs at the World Cafe Live. The Sultans of String have a distinct sound that blends Spanish Flamenco, Arabic folk, Cuban rhythms and French Manouche Gypsy-jazz. Tickets are $16 and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Friday, January 9th

  • Wale takes on the TLA on his SIMPLE Mobile Simply Nothing tour. Doors open at 7 and the show starts at 8 p.m. with opener Audio Push. Tickets are $38.50 online.
  • Check out the Pennsylvania Convention Center for an unlimited sampling of over 300 beers all day Friday and Saturday at The BIG Philly Beerfest! The event is a fundraiser for Animal Rescue Partners, and tickets are $45-75.

Saturday, January 10th

  • Recycle your Christmas tree in Old City from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Drop off your tree at the 4th and Arch Street Firehouse Park, and an arborist will chip the trees on site and use the wood chips to mulch street trees in Old City!
  • Longwood Gardens’ magical holiday light and fountain shows are ongoing until January 11th. Make the holiday season last a little bit longer with A Longwood Christmas, with organ music and Christmas carols.

Sunday, January 11th

  • Get your brunch on at Johnny Brenda’s music venue. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., it’s Second Sunday Gospel Brunch with DJ DNA!
  • Children and adults can learn to master some skating moves at the Dilworth Park ice skating rink. This 4-week program will be offered on Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 10:15 am. Download the form to sign up here! The cost is $60, which includes free admission and skate rental for four visits.
