In the business world, sometimes putting your best foot forward means putting on a fresh face and adapting to a new brand identity. As a company, flexibility is an invaluable trait. The ability to forecast industry trends, counter the competition and respond to customer or client feedback cannot be stressed enough.
This week, such a thing happened to Philly PR Girl. We started the Philly PR Girl blog in 2010 to highlight all of the amazing restaurants, venues and events going on in Philadelphia. As with any project that you pour your heart and soul into, it morphed and grew – first into a series of networking events, then into a PR and event planning service for small businesses, and finally into Philly PR Girl LLC, which we officially launched full-time in 2014! On Monday, we unveiled a beautiful new handwritten design, created for us by the ever-talented Melissa Noucas of The Atelier. The calligraphy reminds us of a love letter, signed from Philly PR Girl to our all-time favorite city. The logo is feminine, stylish and bold, and it still maintains that signature hint of red from our previous design.
Updating our branded appearance was a necessary step for us after a whirlwind of growth and change. Here are the three main reasons to inspire you if you are thinking about an update:
- Change in Market and/or Services
While some companies prefer to fulfill a specific niche or need, many will gain a competitive edge in multiple sectors as both sales and popularity grow. For instance, the logo you would sport as a fashion apparel outlet would likely need a few tweaks if you were to expand your offerings to include home decor or handbags and fragrances. Similarly, if your business is changing due to mergers, acquisitions, relocations or national or international expansions, an overhaul of your branded visuals may be in order to signify such a monumental change to the company’s infrastructure.
- Revival of Your True Identity
Entrepreneurship is a road riddled with mistakes, second guesses and lessons learned. If you are working for a successful business, chances are good there have been both minor and major edits to most every facet of the organization – from key position titles to website relaunches and amendments to the mission statement. Revaluation is how you figure out what’s working and what isn’t; it’s a healthy part of any business strategy. If your logo and branding has remained untouched since its genesis, consider what the design says about your company, and which of those points is no longer valid. The font, primary and secondary colors, size, motion, language and more speak volumes about the personification of your business. Is it saying what it should be?
- Time for an Upgrade
Sometimes, you just need a refresh to keep things interesting. Especially in progressive industries like entertainment and technology, being on the cutting edge is everything. Clients, customers and potential partners are all looking out for the next big thing. Maybe a spark of innovation is just what your business needs to get noticed by the right person! After all, branding is a reflection of the quality of your products or services, as well as the business culture that you are cultivating. If you’re looking to change employees’ attitudes or shake up your core values, systems or practices, a fresh logo and branded design might be just what you need to wake everyone up to the bold changes happening internally.
A huge thank you again to Melissa Noucas (The Atelier) for helping Philly PR Girl to rebrand with an amazing new logo design! Be sure to check out her website and see what fantastic new items she has in her shop by following along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Love this. It’s so true. By the time I had been blogging for 3 years I realized that my content was a little bit all over the place and I wasn’t getting the message across that I had originally started with so I knew it was time for a facelift. These are some great tips, thanks for sharing! I’m going to take them into consideration when doing my usual year-end overhaul.
