This year, Philly PR Girl is thrilled to support the annual performance of Shut Up and Dance! Held at the Forrest Theater on 11th and Walnut, the Pennsylvania Ballet Company entertains with a one-night only production to benefit the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) and its dedication to helping those with illness in the Philadelphia community.

In the early 90s, dancers of the Pennsylvania Ballet saw firsthand the hardships that affected those living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones; they became determined to do something to help. They called upon their own skills and determined the best action to take would be to “shut up and dance”, and thus decided to partner with the MANNA community to deliver a special night that would benefit the organization.

Seven days a week, 52 weeks a year, the volunteers of MANNA work in the kitchens at 2323 Ranstead Street to deliver three nutritional meals per day to neighbors in Southeast Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey suffering from critical illnesses, such as cancer, renal and cardiac disease, diabetes, HIV and AIDS. This small staff of 30 dedicated service men and women play a critical role in feeding, nurturing, and counseling the sick in nutrition – and do so free of charge.

The Pennsylvania Ballet’s performance of Shut Up and Dance consists of original pieces that allow the dancers to channel their emotions into the choreography, and weave their personal stories into a creative narrative. Join us on Saturday, March 22nd for this special showcase, which will be preceded by a VIP party hosted by Jennifer and Steven Korman from 6 to 7:30 pm. The show will start at 8 pm with WXPN Morning Host Michaela Majourn. Continue the night at the after party held at Pennsylvania 6 (114 S 12th Street), where guests will join WXPN Host and local DJ Robert Drake immediately afterwards. Tickets are $25 to $100 and can be purchased here.  Sponsorship and ad space in the playbill are still available, and donations are always welcomed. We hope to see you there!
