Mardi Gras Manhattans in Old City

Old City sure knows how to party! Last week, the gorgeous vintage boutique More Than Old started the Mardi Gras celebrations a little early. In the company of Philadelphia-based food, wine and spirits writer and educator Brian Freedman (Philadelphia Style Magazine, Philadelphia Weekly, Drink Me Magazine), guests enjoyed a lesson and tastings of the classic American cocktail, the Manhattan.

Brian walked guests through the four versions of the drink: dry, sweet, perfect, and brandy. Everyone was kept warm, buzzed, and entertained as he discussed the complex flavors, twists on ingredients, and his favorite bars to order them in the city. The drinks were matched with incredible bites from neighboring British pub, The Victoria Freehouse, who offered Scotch eggs, potted duck rillette, crab salad on toast, pickled beetroot deviled eggs, and treacle tart.

Beth Gibson, owner of the retro North 3rd Street shop, was a happily showed off her collection of exquisite glassware, barware, and accessories throughout the evening. We fell in love with so many of the unique artifacts found at More Than Old!

The next time you find yourself in Old City (for example, this coming First Friday), do yourself a favor and discover all the unique gems it has to offer in its shops. To stay up to date on events, follow More Than Old on Facebook.  Philly PR Girl was happy to be part of such a fun event!
