Monday, January 6th

  • Coffee and Conversation: The Future of the Affordable Care Act – Discuss the health care reform of 2012 with National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen and law professor Josh Blackman.  Reservations are recommended, and the talk begins at 12 pm.
  • Song and Dance from the Penn Libraries Sheet Music Collection – Eat, drink, and dance the night away with Penn students, alumni and staff as they perform never before heard recordings and songs and dances from the sheet music collection at the Penn Library.

Tuesday, January 7th

  • The Ultimate Networking Event Live at Chima Steak House – National LinkedIn speaker and author Brynne Tillman and U.S. Small Business Administration Director David Dickson are special guests of this year’s business networking event. Admission price includes a drink, light fare, a chance to win over $1000 in gift certificates and door prizes, and $7 parking with validation.
  • Philadelphia Comin’ Home – The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia’s Grand Gala Fund Raising Concert celebrates Philadelphia’s jazz legacy through performance and education. Terell Stafford, Director of Jazz and Instrumental Studies at Temple University, is artistic director of this jazz showcase that spans generations, with Bill Cosby acting as emcee for this one-night engagement.

Wednesday, January 8th

  • French Club: Un Peu de Tout – This advanced French class delves into reading, writing, and speaking the language on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11 am. Learn from contemporary materials, short stories, full-length French films and articles to improve your communication skills. $79 for 5 sessions at the Creutzburg Center in Radnor, PA.
  • Free For All – This weekly comedy show run by hosts Aaron Hertzog and Alison Zeidman brings the best comedians in Philadelphia on for a free show every Wednesday evening at 8 pm. New venue location to be determined – follow on Facebook or Twitter for updates.

Thursday, January 9th

  • The Adult Swim at XFINITY! Live – Beginning this week, every Thursday at 8, relax with $5 Grey Goose cocktails, craft beer specials, and leave your kids with the babysitter to socialize with other adults. Thursday’s launch party includes a special performance from “Secret Service”
  • German Beer School, Awesome & Exotic Wines – Pick your poison: the Wine School of Philadelphia is hosting two awesome tasting classes this evening! Learn about the history of classic German beers and the differences between styles like a Berliner Weisse and a Rauchbier at 7:30 pm for $56.98. Or else join their wine class at 7 pm to expand your knowledge of wine grapes and regions and discover new favorite wines to enjoy for $47.98 per person.

Friday, January 10th

  • Kevin O’Brien Studio Pop Up Shop – Indulge in colorful and luxe fabrics at the Kevin O’Brien Studio’s annual shop at 17 N 3rd Street in Old City. This textile studio specializes in hand-painted silk velvet, and is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11-6, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 to 7.
  • I am Curious (Yellow) – The International House of Philadelphia screens one of the most controversial documentaries on exploring sexual identity.  For audiences 18 and older; $9 general admission and $7 for students and seniors.
  • My Life in 19 Inches – This one-man show spans 40 years in the life of a TV addict, Five Minute Follies funnyman Craig Liggeons.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door of The Rotunda; for mature audiences only.

Saturday, January 11th

  • Motorsports 2014 Racecar & Trade Show – This three-day trade show taking place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA, from January 10th through 12th. The star of the event will be ESPN NASCAR motorsports analyst Ricky Craven, who will host an interview and autograph session along with Harry Gant from 5 to 7 pm on Friday.  Click here for the full schedule of events.
  • Moms & Mimosas – Want to take part in this year’s Broad Street Run? Join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Moms In Training program for the upcoming season, and workout alongside other moms with busy schedules! This 11-week workout program on Saturday mornings at 9 am takes place from February 22nd through May 4th. Come out for an information session and grab a mimosa at Philadelphia Runner on 16th and Sansom at 9 am, followed by a brief warm-up run in the city.
  • Constructing Play: Building Classic Toys – This exhibit at the Philadelphia Center for Architecture explores the history of popular toys and toymakers, featuring over 50 toys on display from the past 175 years including Tinker Toys, LEGO, Erector Sets and K’Nex.  Visit for free between now and January 30th.

Sunday, January 12th

  • Lovesick Expo – This “wedding event for the cool at heart” presented by Offbeat Bride and Lovesick Inc. defies the wedding mainstream with burlesque, booze, fashion, giveaways, music, and the best wedding talent in the area. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door at the World Cafe Live.
  • Average Superstar Night of Short Films – This bi-monthly festival of short films at the Trocadero will not only showcase local talent, but also includes Q&As, special guests, and trailers, acting as both a screening and networking event for filmmakers in the Philadelphia area. Tickets are $6, for 21+.
