Here’s whats going on this week…

Monday, August 5th

  • Burger Crawl – What do Village Whiskey, Butcher and Singer, and Rouge all have in common? Each boasts a winning “Best of Philly” burger that can be sampled as part of a tour led by Foobooz Founder, Art Etchells for $60.
  • Imaginings from Nature – Ceramic artist Katia McGuirk’s handmade pieces are on display at the Philadelphia Magic Gardens on South Street now through August 25th. Her whimsical, personal narratives employ the use of clay, tile, glass, stone, and metal in this site-specific display.

Tuesday, August 6th

  • Shark Week LIVE! at Adventure Aquarium – Camden’s aquarium has added special programming for Shark Week, including their Touch-a-Shark exhibit, free top of tank tours, Q&A with shark experts, and viewing of shark diving and shark feeding.
  • 28th Annual Macy’s Night Out – Macy’s is taking part in the nationwide campaign, “National Night Out Against Crime”. Join the Philadelphia Police Department, Center City bike cops, the K-9 and Motocycle Divisions and McGruff the Crime Dog for water ice, soft pretzels, fingerpainting, games, and giveaways, 3 to 5 pm.
  • Free Show – A Night of Funk, Soul, & Live Hip Hop at World Cafe Live – The Queen Theater in Delaware.

Wednesday, August 7th

  • “Coltrane’s Philadelphia: A Documentary Film” – A free screening of Robert Mugge’s film plus a Q&A with the production team starts at 7 pm. Only a few seats left to RSVP for!
  • A Night of Soul, Funk & Hip Hop – Kuf Knotz, Brian Owens, and special guests perform upstairs at the World Cafe for just $5.

Thursday, August 8th

  • Pennsylvania Dutch Festival The Reading Terminal Market will host a three-day extravaganza for all things Amish August 8-10th. Sample traditional Amish food and browse through artisanal crafts and products. On Friday, Amish buggy and horse drawn carriages will make their way down Arch Street, and family fun includes a petting zoo and live music.
  • Young with MS – Meet and mingle with other Philadelphians in their 20’s and 30’s who are living with MS at the National MS Society’s happy hour at The Field House. The official time is 6-8 p.m., but guests are welcome to arrive late, stay late, and bring one sidekick or wingman. RSVP by Tuesday the 6th online or over the phone

Friday, August 9th

  • Carnivolution – The Squidling Brothers’ Circus Sideshow is one of Powelton Village’s best kept secrets. Join the company of fire freaks, acrobats, sword swallowers, burlesque dancers, crazy risk-takers and more for just $10 at the door.
  • Wayne Brady at the Borgata – What better way to celebrate Whose Line’s return to the air than with a live stand-up by the show’s front-runner?

Saturday, August 10th

  • Philadelphia Open Air Market – Every Saturday, 23rd and Arch streets are turned into a European-style market, nicknamed PHAIR, selling everything from jewelry and clothing, art and food, to antiques, furniture and more. From 10 to 5 p.m. now through November 23rd.
  • Southeast Asian Dragon Boat Festival – Dragon boat racing on the Delaware River, live entertainment on the RiverStage at Penn’s Landing, and contemporary and non-traditional performances promoting Southeast Asian culture from 12 to 8 pm.

Sunday, August 11th

  • Queer Magic: A Night of Gender-Bending Experiments in Music and Movement – Part of Quince Productions’ week-long GayFest!, running from August 6-24. Queer Magic features the Witch-Ways, a drag-sister act and members of folk-rock band Silvertron in the Plays & Players’ One Night Stand series.
  • Locust Bar – Weekly karaoke with DJ Lars on 10th and Locust, with no cover charge!
  • Disasters on the Delaware – The Independence Seaport Museum’s current exhibit shares about maritime disasters which have occurred along the Delaware River, including collisions, explosions, sinkings, oil spills and burning piers. Ongoing now through September 15, the museum is open daily from 10 to 5 pm.
