Madonna Wows Philly Crowd

Since Philly PR Girl was otherwise booked on August 28th I was lucky enough to get a first hand review from Madonna’s first performance on the North American leg of her 2012 MDNA World Tour. My friend who is well known in the Philly Radio industry received a last minute text message from Shila Nathan of Wired 96.5s Chio, Shila, and Tingle program. There was an extra ticket for. He was in:

“As a kid of the MTV generation with an incredible appreciation of concerts I was intrigued as to what I would experience at the Wells Fargo Center. My mind was blown. Although she hit the stage late, her presence, choreography, use of the interactive stage, and flair for the dramatic made the delay worth it.

Focusing mostly on new material, performing six songs from her new album “MDNA” while throwing in slivers of hits or full on performances Madonna had the crowd of mostly 30-40 somethings hanging on her every move of the 20-song set. There was no encore for the strictly disciplined show.

She did take time from her energetic dancing and singing to make note that she was proud that her tour was starting off in the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed upon returning from the first leg of her tour in Europe and the Middle East, where freedom of speech is not defended or appreciated as it is on American soil as she continued her support of the jailed Russian punk band Pussy Riot.

Madonna is still THE QUEEN, making it a point to throw a little bit of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” into “Express Yourself” and throwing in a little of “She’s Not Me” just to get her point across that flattery might be sincere, but she’s still the maverick.

Flying drummers, crotch grabs, lots of flesh, and so much more are easier to show you than explain….here’s the set list and some video clips, enjoy!”
