Non Profit Spotlight: Back on My Feet

I was lucky enough to hear Anne Mahlum speak at a Marriott event and I was truly inspired!  Anne started Back on My Feet simply after she decided she wanted to make a difference.  She was running by a homeless shelter everyday (the same one I walk by on my way to work every day) and decided to see if some of the residents would want to go on a run with her.  Crazy idea right, well that’s what everyone told her!   It takes a special person to not only think about this, but actually act on it, and she did and turned it into a National Non Profit organization!

In 2007 she started Back on My Feet, a  Non Profit organization, that promotes the self-sufficiency of people experiencing homelessness by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence and self esteem.   It all started right here in Philadelphia!  After the running part of the program, there is a “Next Steps” phase which includes education, job training, and employment opportunities.  Back on My Feet is truly making a difference.

Back on My Feet now has chapters in  Baltimore, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis and Atlanta.   New York Cities Chapter will launch in April with a one mile run from Central Park right into Time Square.

Please consider supporting Back on My Feet.  Don’t take my word for it, watch this video and it might change your life!  For more information visit: http://backonmyfeet.org/
