Pretty Pretty Rebel Takes Femme Rock N’ Roll Style to a New Dimension

-2

To get ready for Philly Fashion Week and the Philadelphia Collection we stopped by a local designer’s Trunk Show to check out her new designs and to get inspired.   Philly’s own Leah Delfiner is taking pretty in punk to a new level. The designer takes cues from fashion revolutionary Betsey Johnson to create rock n’ roll pieces with a Barbie doll flare, but don’t tell her we said that.  Delfiner’s line, called Pretty Pretty Rebel, began out of her distaste for her Barbie’s clothes. The constant bombardment of pink and innocence from the iconic doll was too much for Delfiner, who has always been into the harder side of rock music but likes to dress with a more feminine touch.

After seeing Betsy Johnson’s first fashion show when she was in the second grade, Delfiner knew she wanted to be in the world of fashion when she grew up, a dream she never let go of. While in college at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, she interned with the style genius and really honed her style and skill set.  Today, Pretty Pretty Rebel gives girls plenty of flattering styles to choose from, with patterns that come directly from Delfiner herself. The designer makes her own patterns to screen print her own fabric, keeping the style true to her own while also creating archetypal imagery, much like her idol has done in the past.

Fashion shows for the 80’s inspired line are more of a party than anything else. Models dance and twirl to the likes of No Doubt and other catchy tunes to show off all the flirty skirts in action. Vibrant hues paired with a heavy black contrast dominate the color scheme more often than not.

Despite successful trunk shows and a quickly growing following, Delfiner isn’t slowing down any time soon. She’s a woman on a fashion mission, and if you ask she’ll tell you exactly what’s on the agenda. “People ask me what I want to do and I say I want to paint the world pink and sparkles!”  Be sure to check out Pretty Pretty Rebel fashion in person and play dress-up with Leah D, her fun and flirty styles are something you don’t want to miss.
