Siempre Salsa Philly is hosting a free outdoor dance party at LOVE Park, and it’s open to everyone! Alexis Duque: Los Dueños De Nada at Taller Puertorriqueño

Alexis Duque focuses his artistic talents on individuals who are often marginalized by society, both symbolically and in reality. Drawing inspiration from Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano’s poem Los Nadies, the Colombian-born, New York-based artist highlights those considered “nobodies”—people, including men, women, and children, who experience poverty and discrimination due to migration, ethnicity, class, or identity. His latest exhibition, Los Dueños De Nada, brought to Philadelphia by arts organization Taller Puertoriqueño, showcases Duque’s collection of paintings and drawings.

The Free Library of Philadelphia is teaming up with Taller Puertorriqueño and the Latin American Book Fair to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with activities for all ages. The event kicks off with arts and crafts for families, along with special bilingual readings of children’s books that showcase Latino culture. Later in the day, a workshop will explore Latin America’s rich poetic tradition and how the words of its iconic poets continue to influence modern literature, both in Philadelphia and globally.

Meet new people and enjoy a fun way to stay fit through dance. Hosted by Fairmount Park Conservancy, DJ Valentin Flores, and Philly Outdoor Bachata & Salsa, the event offers a one-hour dance lesson from 7:30-8:30 PM, followed by social dancing from 8:30-11:30 PM. The lesson, led by an experienced instructor, is suitable for dancers of all levels.
