If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been really into investigating “secrets” in Philly. For the first time this summer, Dîner en Blanc (French for dining in white) will debut in Philadelphia on Thursday, August 23rd. Originated in Paris, this event is supposed to be an extraordinary cultural and culinary experience. White-clad diners arrive to an assigned meeting place with their BYO materials and patiently wait to be guided to their dinner. The 1,000+ guests are then led to their final dining destination.
For the overwhelmed or just busy (aka me!), there is the option to have your picnic catered by Garces Company. Click here to read Chef Garces’ interview with Dîner en Blanc to see what he would pack in his ideal picnic and where his choice location would be.
Dîner en Blanc began as a reunion for 100 friends that expanded to friends of friends. Since its inception over 20 years ago, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with plans to reach to 24 cities. This event is invite-only with a waiting list available, which reached over 31,000 last year in NYC. Currently registration has begun, which is a first-come, first-serve process. From there, it’s a lot of crossing fingers.
Good luck! Comment and let me know what you think Philly’s surprise location will be?
