Monday, January 18

  • Celebrate the man who gave us much more than a day off of work or school. Join the National Liberty Museum’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service for free activities for all ages! Explore a museum about the Civil Rights Era in Philadelphia, and experience art and stories that will inspire you to make change in your community. Admission to the museum is pay-what-you-wish, as donations are welcome.
  • Artists, attend Crafts & Drafts at Frankford Hall at 5:30 p.m. to mingle with professional artists. Share ideas and network with fellow members of the Philadelphia art community. The event is free, with pay-as-you-go food and drink specials, sponsored by the Temple University Tyler School of Art Alumni Association.

Tuesday, January 19 

  • Are you involved in a small business? If so, spend your Tuesday night at Local 940 to network with others at the Small Business Networking Mixer! Both the event and on-site parking are FREE, but don’t forget to bring business cards to exchange. The connecting begins at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, January 20

  • Take a look at GMO’s and get some food for thought at The Franklin Institute Speaker Series, starting at 7 p.m. Learn about health concerns with today’s food from research experts at this free event. Advance registration is required, so book your spot today!
  • The angelic jazz performer, Laurin Talese, will be stunning the crowd with a show at the Kimmel Center! She’ll perform original music from her soon to be released album, while also paying tribute to the classic Natalie Cole. Get your tickets for the show Sittin’ In that begins at 8 p.m.

Thursday, January 21

  • More music will be in Philadelphia this week, as the 2016 Next Women of Country Tour, presented by CMT, hits the Tower Theatre. The show includes incredible country artist Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland, as well as Lindsay Ell, Brandy Clark, and Tara Thompson!
  • Have you ever wanted to learn more about web coding, but didn’t know where to start? Well, you can begin by going to Girl Develop It’s Intro to Web Concepts class for beginners at First Round Capital. There is no tech experience needed for this class – just you and your laptop!

Friday, January 22

  • Paradigm Gallery + Studio is hosting a celebration for street artists in Philadelphia, along with the 5th anniversary of StreetsDept.com! #StreetsDeptTurns5 will be a show with 10 of founder Conrad Benner’s favorite artists that he’s worked with the previous five years. The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m., but drinks will continue after 10 p.m. at Tattooed Mom’s 2nd Floor!
  • Another country singer is coming to Philadelphia this week! Chris Young will be at the Electric Factory with Cassadee Pope as his opening act. Check out our previous blog post to see more upcoming concerts coming to the city this month!
  • Share a laugh with The N Crowd as they perform improv that depends on YOU, the audience. Whatever you want them to act out, they will! The doors open at 7:30 p.m. at the Actors Center, but the laughter starts at 8 p.m.

Saturday, January 23

  • Enjoy great winter beers in one of the most beautiful settings in Philadelphia at Blue Cross River Rink. The second annual Winter Brewfest will take place all weekend long, so get your fill of local and regional beers, music, and more. Sit by the fire pit or in the cottage, or take laps around the ice rink!
  • PAPAYA* is bringing NIE’s musical The End of Everything Ever to the Painted Bride Art Center! Watch UK and Norway actors perform an amazing show about a young girl on a Kindertransport out of Germany before WWII. Don’t miss the US premiere, and go for the Sunday matinee if you can’t go Saturday night!
  • Saved by the 90s party band is coming back to the Trocadero for another 90s celebration! Dress like it’s 1999 and enjoy music from the good ol’ days. Doors open at 8 p.m., but you do have to be 21 or older to attend.

Sunday, January 24

  • Center City Restaurant Week isn’t over! Continue indulging in three-course meals for as low as $20 all week! But make sure you make your reservations early, before they all book up.
  • Everyone needs a little karaoke in his or her life. Take Sunday funday to a whole other level by going to Locust Bar for Karaoke Night with DJ Lars from 7 p.m. to midnight!
