There’s nothing like spending a Saturday in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. Philadelphia is one of the best cities – dare we say, the very best – for creating the perfect combination of fun, excitement, and relaxation, especially when it comes to our favorite day of the week. Philly PR Girl has teamed up with local bloggers to create the ideal Saturday in Philly, packed from morning ‘til night with the things Philly locals love to do. So, do as the locals do, and get ready to have your best Saturday in Philly yet!
Start with Brunch
If you didn’t have brunch, is it really a Saturday? We didn’t think so. Because there’s nothing better than starting the weekend off with brunch, here are two of our suggestions for a delicious and Instagram-worthy meal. For those looking for something to take on-the-go, Waffles and Wedges might only do three things, but they do them pretty darn well. Pick a waffle, potato wedges (plain or sweet potato), or a pretzel roll, and just try to decide which of their sweet or savory toppings you want to load on top!
For a more traditional dining experience, make your way to Brick and Mortar for dishes like ricotta pancakes, eggs with toast topped with housemade cultured butter, and icy granitas that are the perfect treat for a hot summer day.
Take a Walk
After indulging, a walk through the picturesque Schuylkill River Banks seems like the obvious thing to do next – it didn’t win USA Today’s pick of best urban trail for no reason!
The Philly PR Girl team is full of dog-lovers, so after stopping home to pick up our four-legged friends, we’ll enjoy the scenery of our favorite city skyline and the winding Schuylkill River. People-watching is a great way to spend the early afternoon!
Make a Coffee Stop
All that walking has us tired, and we need a pick-me-up from the beverage that’s nearest and dearest to our hearts: Coffee, of course! We recommend heading to Fishtown, one of Philly’s coolest neighborhoods, for one of Philly’s coolest coffee shops.
The La Colombe in Fishtown serves up many delicious varieties of coffee and also has a killer food menu, as well as beer, wine, and rum for days when coffee just doesn’t cut it. But today we’ll just be grabbing a quick latte and taking a seat in the industrial, ultra-hip space.
Find a Fun Event
After getting our afternoon caffeine kick, we head over to a midday event. Who said an ideal Saturday had to be a lazy one?! From 104.5 Summer Block Parties to outdoor festivals and venue openings, there’s always something going on in Philly. It’s our job (and pleasure) to go and check them out!
Kick Back and Relax
While there’s few things we love more than mingling at awesome events, all this socializing has our shoulders way too tense. With some time to kill before heading to dinner with friends, we make a stop at Hand & Stone* for a much-needed massage. A Swedish massage relieves the tension from our back and loosens up our muscles, leaving us completely relaxed and ready to tackle the rest of our day.
Wine & Dine Out
Feeling rejuvenated and ready for a delicious end to the day, we head to BYOB Queen Village mainstay Dmitri’s, where they’ve been serving amazing Greek food for 25 years.
After a delicious dinner, we’re not quite ready to go home just yet. So we make the trek all the way to Chinatown for a visit to Hop Sing Laundromat. The entrance is marked only by a wrought iron door, and nothing else. The booze-only bar features an extensive list of delicious cocktails, and the exclusive, speakeasy vibe easily makes it one of Philly’s coolest bars, thus making it the perfect way to end our ideal Saturday in Philadelphia!

HOW have I never heard of Waffles and Wedges? I need to get there immediately. I wish I weren’t away for the rest of August…I’d like to remedy this now. I found your blog through the City Fit Girls chat the other night, and I am so glad I did!
Hey Amanda, we’re so glad you found us too! Let us know when you try Waffles and Wedges – they’re relatively new to the area (and super nice)!
