Beyond the Runway: BTS at Philly Fashion Week 2018

By now, you’ve seen all the pictures from Philly Fashion Week. Have you wondered what happens behind the scenes? Fashion shows are synonymous with flashing lights and glamorous runways. This year at Philly Fashion Week, we had the opportunity to work behind the scenes to see what it takes to get the final product attendees see on the runway.

5 hours before showtime –

All the makeup artists and hair stylists start arriving to set up their stations for the day.

4.5 hours before showtime

The lead hairstylist, Kia Sterling, and lead makeup artist, Alexis Alexandria, have a meeting with the whole team. They talk about expectation,  and they get the whole glam team hype for the craziness that is about to be unleashed!

4 hours before showtime

The models start arriving for hair and makeup. The lead hair stylist and makeup artist demonstrate the evening’s looks on models. Then, it’s up to the other artists to use their notes for execution! It is SO important that all the models look uniform.

The looks for the day were very editorial with slicked back hair and glowy skin. Kia used Milbon hair products to hold the models’ hair in place with intricate twists at the nape of the neck. To add to the polished look, Alexis created a natural glowy look using Luci Skin official metalit products. This achieved the healthy, radiant look that is sooo IN right now! She paired this with a bold red lipstick and feathery brows.

At this time, glamming the models has to be put on pause. They all rush to have a last-minute fitting and a run-through on the runway.

Right before the show

Hair stylists and makeup artists are walking around backstage doing last minute touch ups before the models hit the runway.

It definitely takes a village to put on a show and being backstage made us appreciate the finished product even more.

What do you think of the hair and makeup trends at Philly Fashion Week 2018? Do you see yourself trying out the looks for a night out?
