Don’t Miss the Be Well Philly Health Hero Challenge Nomination Deadline!

For the seventh year in a row, Philadelphia magazine is searching for Health Heroes! These are local health and wellness advocates committed to living and encouraging healthy lifestyles. Now’s your chance to bring recognition to your favorite Health Hero! Nominate them for the Be Well Philly Health Hero Challenge, presented by Independence Blue Cross.

The Challenge has highlighted local advocates who are making strides to help others live healthier lives. This can be  a fitness instructor, a doctor, a nonprofit founder, or anyone in our region who is passionate about wellness.

Last year’s winner is Darren Sudman is the co-founder of Simon’s Heartand Got AED. The $10,000 donation, from the presenting sponsor Independence Blue Crossand <Philadelphia magazine, was used for automated external defibrillators (AED). They were placed in areas where children learn and play, to assist in the goal of reducing sudden cardiac arrest and death in young kids and athletes. Sudman started his initiative to raise awareness after his young son Simon’s sudden passing from an undetected and treatable heart condition.

Here’s the process of the 2018 Health Hero award:

Step 1: Get nominated
Nominations of individuals over the age of 21 are being accepted now until Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Visit this link to nominate someone in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware who is making strides to help others live healthier lives.
Step 2: Wait

After all nominations have been accepted, the top 10 semi-finalists will be narrowed down by Philadelphia magazine editors.

Step 3: VOTE

From those 10, the readers of Philadelphia magazine will select the top three finalists.

Step 4: Celebrate

The top three finalists will be recognized at a celebration in November, and the winner will finally be announced. This year, the winning Health Hero will receive a donation of $10,000 to the charity of their choice. The two runner-ups will also each receive a donation for $2,500 to their respective chosen charities.

Nominations will be open for submission until Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at midnight. Challenge rules and regulations require nominees to be 21+ and a resident of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware.
