George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®

December 8 – 31
Academy Of Music  | Multiple matinee and evening showtimes

Notably Philadelphia’s most beloved holiday tradition, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker returns to the Kimmel Center. Journey to the Land of the Sweets with the Pennsylvania Ballet’s production. See amazing dancers, costumes, and delightful live orchestra bring the enchanted show to life. Experience the beautiful story that truly captures the magic of the season!

The Color Purple

December 12 – December 17
Forrest Theatre | Multiple matinee and evening showtimes

The 2016 Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival, The Color Purple is a stunning adaptation of an epic story about love and triumph. It’s the musical sensation that New York Magazine dubbed as “one of the greatest revivals ever.” The soul-raising score filled with jazz, ragtime, blues and gospel gives an exhilarating spirit to the Pulitzer Prize-winning story. Come to experience the joyous American classic that has conquered the Broadway stage time and time again.

PHILADANCO: H-I-S-T-O-R-Y

December 15 – 17
Perelman Theater  |  2:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.

The PHILADANCO showcase highlights a past that is often left out in history books. Witness the world premiere ballet entitled ‘Pieces of My Heart”, choreographed by Sonia Dawkins. The stories are based on the poems of renowned writer August Wilson; choreography by Geoffrey Holder; “Forces of Rhythm” from The Wiz choreographer; and Tony Award winner Louis Johnson. Experience the incomparable legacy of African American choreographers that have a story to tell through dance!   

Messiah

December 21 – 22
Verizon Hall | 7:00 p.m.

Always worthy of a standing ovation, Handel’s ontario graces the stage with music and spirituality. Join Cristian Măcelaru, the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, and The Philadelphia Orchestra for the perfect soundtrack to the holiday season. Catch it while you can; it graces the Kimmel Center stage for just two nights only.

ShowStoppers Winter Revue 2017

Friday, December 22
Perelman Theater  | 7:30 p.m.

It’s a whole new world as the ShowStoppers Musical Theater Program takes on Aladdin The Musical. An exceptional performance of powerful vocals and dazzling dance numbers, the young artists captivate the audience with the witty portrayal of the most beloved Disney characters. In addition, ShowStoppers are set to present a trio of excerpts featuring shows from the Kimmel Center’s Broadway Philadelphia 2017-18 series. Don’t leave before getting an exclusive glimpse to the most anticipated show of 2018-19, Hamilton!

Stomp

December 26 – 31
Merriam Theater | 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m.

Stomp is an unforgettable experience for the entire family to enjoy! The explosive, witty, and provocative performance is utterly unique. The eight-member troupe has racked up armfuls of awards, rave reviews, and numerous appearances on television shows. They use everything but the conventional percussion instruments to create a lively pulse-pounding show. The Boston Globe says, “If you haven’t seen Stomp, GO! Come see what all the noise is about!
