U.S. Senator John McCain Receives 2017 Liberty Medal

On Monday, October 16, the National Constitution Center hosted a ceremony to honor U.S. Senator John McCain with the 2017 Liberty Medal for his years of service and dedication to The United States. We were honored to witness as former Vice President Joe Biden presented his longtime friend with the deserving award. McCain proceeded to deliver a light-hearted and meaningful speech mentioning “what a privilege it is to serve this big, boisterous, brawling, intemperate, striving, daring, beautiful, bountiful, brave, magnificent country.”

Heartfelt remarks came from National Constitution Center President, Jeffrey Rosen; President of University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Amy Gutmann; and Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz. The event also included moving clips from colleagues and family. Others who have received this honor include Hillary Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Supreme Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and many more.
