Philly Fashion Week 2017: Up & Coming Talent

Every year, Philadelphia showcases the best in local and international designers at Philly Fashion Week. This year was no exception as the week-long event is now bigger and better than ever. With celebrity appearances, musical performances and must-see styles, PFW17 was one to remember.

The Style GALA

The Philly Fashion Week 2017 fall season started on a high note at Dilworth Park, an exciting new location for the beloved style event. The tent was packed with fashion fans excited for the amazing styles to come down the runway.

The Philadelphia Fashion Incubator kicked off the show with their emerging designers showcase. Six local designers were chosen to participate in the 2017 Designers in Residence program and debuted their fall line on opening night. From intricate embellishments to cozy knits and sustainable materials, the audience experienced a diverse show that surely left everyone looking forward to fashion-forward fall styles. Following the show, guests had a chance to purchase pieces straight from the runway. This emphasizes retail’s move towards the “see-now, buy-now” trend is here to stay.

Check out more details about the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator designers below:

  • Lillie Couture: Avant-garde evening wear with intricate hand worked lace and beading on wedding and evening gowns.
  • JWT: Finely crafted knitwear and wovens for men and women. The line includes dresses, sweaters, ponchos, cowls, and more.
  • Penrose: Made with sustainable/reusable materials for the free spirited woman.
  • Lucy & Leo: Soft knits w/ neutral hues made with organic fabrics perfect for a baby’s sensitive skin
  • Eluthera: These flowy garments were created with ink paints
  • Voloshin: Where comfort meets subtle lux with soft pastels and florals.

Macy’s Fall Show

Macy’s Center City presented an amazing show featuring its Philadelphia Fashion Incubator. Celebrity emcee Carson Kressley kept the energy high as the models paraded down the runway. The trends of the evening included: wool hats, printed scarves, and tons of velvet and embroidered textures. Ponchos are making a comeback, ranging from heavy knits to structured pullovers. Merlot is the color of the season, mixed with sparkle and shine from metallic golds and silvers. Booties are still on trend, with attention to the small details like accents on block heels. The show closed with R&B singer Sevyn Streeter singing her top hits for the crowd. It was definitely a Philly Fashion Week performance to remember!

The Runway I

The first major runway show of Philly Fashion Week, The Runway I, kicked off on Friday evening with a full house. The night’s show featured incredible designers such as Willfredo Gerardo, Mariah Lynn, Burning Guitars, Ke’ Collection, MCM, Victoria Wright, J Pratt, Steel Pony, and many more. The crowd was loving every minute. Philly’s notable lined the front row, including artist Chill Moody.*

PFW Kids Runway Show

Saturday afternoon’s Kids Runway Show was by far the cutest part of Philly Fashion Week! Children designers, Vanndalz, RM67, My Little Gent, DFI, Elizabeth Delgado Kids, and retailer Century 21 all brought serious style in miniature form. From sharp suits to beautiful gowns, this portion of PFW was one of the highlights. Aside from the creative designers, it was exciting to see up-and-coming modeling talent in Philadelphia.

The Runway II

The final show of Philly Fashion Week concluded at Dilworth Park with major designers that were local, national, and international. It was a packed house for this haute show on Saturday night. There were major celebratory vibes throughout the show. Featured designers included THEM, Tu De Cor, Ace Blakely, Radical TZ, Cristobal Men & Women, Cornelius Ortiz, Chicago Playground, Marc Cain, Clavon’s Wear, John JNL Leon, These Pink Lips, and  many more. A standout moment of the night was when These Pink Lips opened their show with a confident girl boss showing off some serious dance moves.
