7th Annual Ball on The Square Gala

On Thursday, June 15, one of the premiere social events of the year took place at one of the most recognizable Philly locations. The annual Ball on The Square gala, hosted by the Friends of Rittenhouse Square, is the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year.

For one magical night, the iconic Rittenhouse Square Park is transformed into a stunning tented ballroom. Dressed to the nines in black-tie attire, the city’s most notable residents descended upon the Square for a night of dining, drinking, and dancing. (We spotted Mayor Kenney in the crowd this year!) The main ballroom opened at 7 p.m., and socialites of Philadelphia quickly wound their way around the room to find their seats. In the warm summer heat, guests cooled off with ice cold bottles of Peroni, flutes of chilled champagne, and premium cocktails.

Across the street, the Stotesbury Mansion hosted the Young Friends Ball on The Square. This event occurs simultaneously during dinner at Ball on The Square. Designed for young professionals ages 21 to 35 years old, the crowd and atmosphere were lively and chic. Inside the historically charming venue, DJ Adrian Hardy provided live entertainment while guests danced through the evening.

With flowing drinks and passed hors d’oeuvres and desserts, the Young Friends mixed and mingled throughout the mansion’s first three floors. A silent auction included gifts such as wine baskets, spa packages, and many more glamorous prizes. After dinner in the tent concluded, the parties merged at Rittenhouse Square to dance the night away to the energetic sounds of the Eddie Bruce Orchestra.

Friends of Rittenhouse Square is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, formed in 1976 with a mission to preserve and protect Rittenhouse Square. Today, Friends is an instrumental part of keeping the park beautiful, providing all of the park landscaping, tree care, bench repair, holiday lights, and much more. The annual Ball on The Square is held annually on the third Thursday in June. Stay tuned for 2018 to see how this event continues to get even better.
