The Chainsmokers Take on Philly at The Liacouras Center

On Saturday, June 3, The Chainsmokers, brought their latest Billboard-topping hits to Philadelphia. The Grammy-nominated duo, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, arrived at Temple University’s Liacouras Center for an incredible sold-out show! This year, they’re up for three Grammy Awards: Best New Artists, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Dance Recording. We were excited to get an exclusive look of their Memories: Do Not Open Tour.

As the night began, thousands of fans anxiously awaited The Chainsmokers’ opening acts. First up was Whethan, a seventeen-year-old DJ/producer from Chicago. With a combined four million plays on Soundcloud, he played popular songs like “Savage” and “Can’t Hide.” He even brought out surprise guest artist, Oliver Tree to perform “When I’m Down.” Up next was Kiiara, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter who will be joining the duo on all tour dates. She absolutely rocked her stage look with pink hair and sparkly tights. Her act included a number of hits, including “Tennessee,” “Feels,” and “Gold.”

Around 9:30 p.m., Drew and Alex kicked off the main act of the night as they were elevated onto the stage performing “The One.” In between songs, they talked about their time in Philly. In a standard poll of Pat’s vs. Geno’s, the city was completely unhelpful to them. In the end, we hope you found a Philly cheesesteak you enjoyed!

The Chainsmokers did not take the stage alone, as they had a couple special guests join them throughout their set including Emily Warren and Tony Ann. Emily is an American singer and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum songwriter. If her name doesn’t sound too familiar, her voice certainly would. She is the female vocals in the Chainsmokers new track, “Paris.” Tony is an extremely talented Canadian pianist and composer studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. The Chainsmokers discovered Tony on the Internet playing piano covers of their songs and asked him to join them on their North American tour!

The show went non-stop for two hours. With light effects, fire flames, confetti and cryogenics, the energy was palpable. Everyone was on their feet dancing the whole time, and the artists even went out to the first row to high five fans. Just when everyone thought the show was over with “Don’t Let Me Down,” they came out for an encore to perform “Last Day Alive.”
