Grand Opening of Philadelphia Distilling

Philadelphia Distilling, the first craft distillery in PA since the Prohibition era is now open in Fishtown. We have all the details of what you need to know about the beautiful state-of-the-art facility! A two-day grand opening on February 19 and 20 debuted the $4.5 million dollar renovation of the former Ajax Metal Company from the late 19th century. We were invited to check out the 15,000 square ft. of transformed décor, vaulted ceilings, and an unveiling of the impressive production equipment.

This award-winning Philadelphia distillery produces premium spirits, most notably Bluecoat American Dry Gin. Andrew Auwerda, President and Co-Founder of Philadelphia Distilling, set out to revolutionize gin by creating one that would appeal specifically to American tastes and produce in his hometown of Philadelphia. Fast forward 10 years later, the distillery is able to produce artisan gin with less of the “traditional” juniper flavors. Instead, Bluecoat highlights 100% organic botanicals, such as sweet orange and lemon peel.

At the highly-anticipated opening, guests had the pleasure of sampling delicious signature cocktails. Our favorite was Penn’s Woods, elegantly garnished with a sprig of dill. Halfway through the night, the distilling room was revealed, where guests admired the full view of equipment. Head Distiller, Aaron Selya, was on hand to introduce us to how the distilling process works.

With hours of operation between Thursday and Sunday, tours and tastings are available. Did we mention there is also a craft cocktail bar and lounge, retail store, and outdoor patio? Book your first visit today!
