What’s going on This Week in Philly…

Monday, May 2

  • Philly’s spontaneous theater company Tongue & Groove continues their hilarious and heartbreaking First Monday series in the brand new Drake Theatre at 1512 Spruce Street.
  • In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, Jazz It Up Philly wants to celebrate our city’s greatly talented artists with a FREE Jazz Artist Appreciation Party! Enjoy the smooth and soulful sounds at Vesper from 4 to 8 p.m. this evening. There will be a complementary photo shoot for all artists in attendance.

Tuesday, May 3

  • Let’s get sudsy! Tuesday marks the start of America’s largest craft brewery industry gathering. The Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America will take place from the 3rd through the 6th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from top players in the industry, learn from hands-on demonstrations and seminars, and participate in the World Beer Cup Awards Ceremony.
  • In other beverage-related news, Philadelphia Magazine’s annual Wine & Food Festival is returning to the Linc. There will be samples from over 650 exclusive wines from around the world to taste!

Wednesday, May 4

  • On Wednesday evening, Opera Philadelphia will present L’elisir d’amore, or The Elixir of Love, at the Academy of Music. Set in the 1940’s Italian countryside, the show will be performed in Italian with English supertitles. Buy your tickets here!

Thursday, May 5

  • If you’re a woman operating in the tech industry, come out to mix and mingle with some like-minded ladies at this year’s Women in Tech Soiree, hosted by Girl Develop It Philly. Amanda Steinberg will kick off the evening as keynote speaker, alongside a panel of women moderated by GDI’s Yasmine Mustafa. Grab your tickets to join in the conversation!

Friday, May 6

  • Meet CEO of Stella & Dot, Jessica Herrin, and the Arts and Business Council of Philadelphia’s #AWEsome panel at the networking event, Embracing the Entrepreneur in You. The event will be hosted in a mini “shark tank” format that pairs leading entrepreneurs with local businesses and investors at the Prince Theater from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Think of The Naked Magic Show as an R-rated performance similar to Magic Mike, but with real magic in it. Perfect for a naughty night out, this show is going to bring a whole new meaning to the catchphrase, “now you see it.” Tickets range from $29 to 89!

Saturday, May 7

  • There’s no better way to celebrate the spring season than at the annual South Street Spring Festival! Roam South Street while noshing on bites from local restauranteurs and sipping beverages from the best vendors in the area. There will be plenty of live music, plus a KidZone for family-friendly fun.
  • Celebrate Free Comic Book Day in Philadelphia! On the first Saturday of every May, a number of stores across the US participate in this unofficial holiday to introduce newbies to the joy of comic books and thank fans and customers for their loyal patronage. Sunday, May 8

  • Do you love Philadelphia’s city parks and green spaces? Of course! So rally some of your best buds and show your city a little TLC during Love Your Park week. Over 100 neighborhood parks friends groups will be hosting fun events and volunteer projects May 7 through 14. Get in on the action!
  • The Avalon will begin accepting reservations this weekend! The team behind our own Pub + Kitchen and Fitler’s Dining Room are opening their space down at the Jersey shore during weekends in May. We gotta say, their Preview Menu looks pretty tasty!
