Women’s History Month #WCW | Vasiliki Tsiouris, Co-Owner of Opa & Craftsman Row Saloon

Vasiliki Tsiouris #wcw (2)This week’s #WomanCrushWednesday features a young woman who needs no introduction in the Philadelphia restaurant scene. Vasiliki Tsiouris is the Co-Owner of Modern Greek restaurant Opa, and the three-month old American restaurant on Jeweler’s Row, Craftsman Row Saloon. We’re proud to feature her as this week’s #WCW pick!

When asked how she became involved in the restaurant industry, Vasiliki shared, “My brother, George, and I always talked about opening our own place. We were born into the restaurant industry, as our father owned a number of restaurants in Greece. Wearing about ‘every hat’ growing up, from helping as a cashier at 11 years old to working the front of the house at age 15, I was able to get a taste of the industry at an early age.”

After visiting Gazi – a beautiful, social atmosphere in Athens, Greece – Vasiliki and her brother were inspired to bring the same social vibe and “current Greek” scene to Philadelphia. One year later, their first restaurant, Opa, was born! Fast-forward five years, and you would have found Vasiliki and her team celebrating Opa’s five-year anniversary this past February!

On December 4, 2015, Craftsman Row Saloon opened. Voted among the Top 10 Hottest New Restaurant in Philadelphia by Zagat, Craftsman Row Saloon offers modern comfort food, American classics, and a laid-back atmosphere. Vasiliki  says, “Our wings, roasted half chicken, burgers, and macaroni and cheese are definitely a must-try, along with our French onion soup and kale salad.”

Craftsman Row Saloon was previously known as a saloon called Coco’s. Vasiliki and her team spiced up the venue, making it their own, with a name that more appropriately fit its location. They chose the venue between Chestnut and Sansom streets for of their love for the neighborhood, and the history behind the site, which had been serving food for decades.

When asked what people can expect from both her and her brother’s restaurants, she confidently stated, “Both restaurants have great food, service, and are an all-around good time. Our customers can kick back and relax, whether they’re coming in for a little bit, or staying the whole night.” Long story short, you won’t be disappointed!
