PostSecret: The Show Shocks & Entertains Philly Audiences

Have you ever had a secret you felt you couldn’t tell anyone? Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, came up with the ongoing art project over 10 years ago. In it, he collects anonymous secrets on postcards from strangers revealing their deepest confessions. Turns out, since starting the project, he’s received over one million secrets! The confessions on these postcards cover an emotional spectrum: funny, sad, lonely, happy, embarrassing, controversial, and much more.

PostSecret: The Show brings to life the unheard voices of PostSecret and features actors who emote the secrets that have been featured in Warren’s best-selling books and on his famous blog. PostSecret: The Show is a visual, auditory and emotional journey through the beauty and complication of our deepest fears, ambitions, and confessions. On March 18 and 19, the audience at the Kimmel Center was taken on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the night with shock, laughter, and even tears.

Led by three actors with the assistance of projected images and video, the audience was guided through a crowd-sourced narrative through some of the never-before-seen posts found on PostSecret. They would simply read secrets or act them out with raw emotion, as if they knew the story behind the statement. As PostSecret is a source of anonymous interaction, guests had the chance to share their secrets by putting them in a mailbox and having the actors read them aloud later in the show.

Warren surprised the audience as he appeared for a Q&A alongside the actors in the show. His favorite secret? Ironically, it’s not on a post card. It happens to be written on a dollar bill, but he feels it is the epitome of the project: “We are all part of something bigger… and we are all part of it together.” PostSecret: The Show is a unique reminder to audiences that no matter what they may be facing, they are not alone.
