9 Must-Have Apps for Philadelphians

Philly apps

“There’s an app for that!” We bet you’ve heard that a million and one times. But within the mobile app world comes a few apps specifically designed for us Philadelphians. From emojis tailored to our lifestyle, to help finding a new home in one of our many neighborhoods, to a biking app that encourages you to get out and explore the city on your two-wheeler, there is an app to cover almost every aspect of Philly living. We compiled a list of the must-have apps for Philadelphians. Thank us later 😉

The New Emoji Apps

How excited were you when VisitPhilly announced the new Philly Emojis? We downloaded them the second we could and began to swap messages in the office. Our city is filled with so much history, unique charm, and culture, all of which was depicted into keyboard emojis. Philadelphia has a vibe that cannot be matched. Now we can’t imagine not having emojis appropriate for daily life in the City of Brotherly Love!

SEPTA Transit Tracker

Septa is well-equipped to get us where we need to be. Their ridership has been up in the last few months; there’s a chance you have taken SEPTA today, making this app very relevant. The application features everything you need to stalk the form of transit you are looking to catch. We like the Transit View feature best, as this lets you see exactly where your bus, train, or trolley is located to avoid your wait time at the station or stop.

OpenTable

The Philadelphia restaurant scene is pretty top notch. Being the “Philly Phoodies” we are, we think this app is essential. The App Store even lists this application as an essential, meaning it’s a great app for experiencing just what you are looking for – and in this case, it’s making reservations. Who doesn’t love trying new restaurants in the city? OpenTable allows you create, adjust, and cancel reservations. There is also a point system that rewards you with money off of reservations at participating restaurants!

Venmo

Philly support Philly, right? Venmo was created by University of Penn grads Andrew Kortina and Iqram Magdon-Ismail. This popular application puts money in your hands (well, bank account) through a wire exchange. It make money transfers from friends and family so simple and easy. It’s literally effortless to set up. Within the next day, your payment is in your account. Cha – ching!

Philly.com

Forget browsing on Twitter for the latest update – this is Philly News at your fingertips; delivering everything you need to know, from breaking news to sport highlights. Philly.com is our news outlet, and it’s quite amazing to have all of the information from a newspaper in the palm of your hand. Catch up on all the latest new while in commute, on your lunch break, or on that stationary bike in your local gym.

Bike2Go

Biking has always been apart of our city’s culture. Now that we have Indego, the roads are more bike friendly and we have trails to be discovered over the city. Bike2Go is perfect for finding Indego bikes and station. This comes in handy when you want to go on a quick ride or spend the day seeing the city as the way avid bikers do. Oh, and FYI, Indego is adding 24 new stations throughout the city this year – downloading this app will be helpful!

Find My Tap

If you haven’t realized it yet, Philly is a beer city. Check what brews are on tap in your neighborhood with this app. Never go a bar that’s not serving you favorite beer again! What a great idea, since optioning for a replacement drink is not always ideal. Download this app and search throughout the city to see what’s available.

Stream

This is a new photo sharing app developed by Philly natives that lets you collect all photos that were taken on a specific night or during an event and puts them into a stream. You can share the stream with anyone. Your family, friends and whoever else you enjoyed the night with can add their pictures to the stream as well!

Philly Jobs

Find your career starter or dream job with Philly Job. The application lists all latest job postings in the city. You can search by neighborhood, career field or company. Why find a job outside the City of Brotherly Love if you don’t have to?

What would be your ideal Philly app? We want to know!
