What do you get when you combine a super talented cast, a story line purposively meant to equally offend all, and a wildly popular Broadway musical? The Book of Mormon, of course. Going into the beautiful Forrest Theatre, we were excited to finally see the show that has won nine Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
The Book of Mormon is a religious satire musical about two young Mormon missionaries who are sent to a remote village in Uganda. Created by South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez, we went into the show expecting a clever and witty script. The opening number “Hello” kicks the show off like no other Broadway show. The musical mocks every race and religion in a way that keeps you entertained and laughing throughout the show.
Christopher John O’Neil stole the show as Elder Cunningham in his professional debut. Not to be completely outshined by KJ Hippensteel as Elder Price. These two talented actors kept the audience on the edge of their seats during the performance. The two mismatched missionaries took you on an adventure to Africa and had you humming along with them the whole time.
