This past Wednesday, June 10, the highly anticipated red-carpet premiere of Sons of Ben: The Movie finally hit the Trocadero Theater stage! Philly PR Girl was so excited to be the official PR and Event Planning team for the film, which told the inspiring story of a supporters group, the Sons of Ben, who rallied together on behalf of a soccer team that didn’t even exist yet. Rothbury Road Productions, Director Jeff Bell, and Producer Mike Dieffenbach brought the story of the Sons of Ben to life, and showed the packed Trocadero Theater what it means to be a true Philadelphia sports fan.

Before the unveiling of the film, guests got their pictures taken on the red carpet and mingled with stars from the film, members of the Sons of Ben, Philadelphia Union players, and the filmmakers themselves. Almost everyone there was donning his or her finest blue and yellow attire to show love for the Sons of Ben and the Philadelphia Union! Thanks to KIND Snacks, Pretzel Crisps, and Dunkin’ Donuts, guests had plenty of delicious snacks to enjoy during the special Yards Happy Hour before the debut screening.

As the film began, there was no mistaking that the audience was filled with passionate Philly and Philadelphia Union fans alike. Shouting, laughing, and cheering through the entire film in true Sons of Ben fashion, the raucous audience was full of love for their team and their city. The filmmakers perfectly depicted the ups and downs of the Sons of Ben’s journey to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Philadelphia, showing how all of their hard work, dedication, and passion not only brought the Philadelphia Union into existence in 2008, but also how its creation benefited the area surrounding the Union Stadium at PPL Park in the city of Chester, as well.

Following the movie’s premiere, guests enjoyed a DJ spinning some great tunes (Thanks Joe Vespe!)  at the after-party at the Trocadero, while our amazing food sponsors treated everyone to delicious bites. A special thank-you to all of our food sponsors for helping make this an unforgettable night: Los Gallos Mexican Taqueria, Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery, Cerebellum H20, Marcia’s Cupcakery, Sweet Devilish Delights, Brü Craft & Wurst, Bon Chon, and Brine Street Picklery.

CSNPhilly’s Anchor/Reporter Amy Fadool was the official host and MC of the after-party, and she did some amazing interviews with founders and members of the Sons of Ben, the filmmakers, and even some Philadelphia Union players! It was truly incredible to see how much this film meant to the Sons of Ben, the Philadelphia Union team, and its fans – Union Manager Jim Curtain even said the film “will now become mandatory watching for players who come to our team”!

The Sons of Ben: The Movie premiere celebration could not be stopped, and guests continued their festivities at the official after-after-party next door at Tango. It could not have been a more amazing night for one of the best Philadelphia stories you’ll ever see!
