Monday, May 11

  • Spend an evening with Delaware Valley Legacy Fund’s OurNightOut for networking with Philly’s finest. Meet new friends and get reacquainted with old ones while socializing in different Philadelphia hot spots each month. This month’s venue is at Ms. Tootsie’s on 1312 South Street from 6 – 8 p.m. There is a capacity limit, so register online for a spot!
  • Familiar to many for his recent stint as a judge on the NBC’s a cappella singing contest, The Sing-Off, singer/songwriter/pianist Ben Folds is coming to perform at the Theater of the Living Arts. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets range from $45-$55.
  • Join host JB Farley (the 2012 “Best Of Philly Quizzo” host himself) for Monday night Quizzo at Stranglove’s on 216 South 11th Street. The fun starts at 9 p.m., with no pre-registration or drink minimum. Prizes include gift cards to Strangelove’s and cool beer swag!

Tuesday, May 12

  • The Constitution Center hosts the film screening and Philadelphia premiere of 14: Dred Scott, Wong Kim Ark & Vanessa Lopez. This documentary explores the recurring question, “Who has the right to be an American citizen?” Enjoy concessions and light fare from 5:30 to 6 p.m. with the film screening and discussion to follow.
  • Join the Pennsylvania Innocence Project for a very special evening of inspiring storytelling. Pennsylvania Innocence Project works to exonerate those convicted of crimes they did not commit and to prevent innocent people from being convicted. Tickets to join are $150 and the event will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. at 320 South Broad Street.
  • Come support the Phillies as they play against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citizens Bank Park this week! Tickets range from $25-$125, and game time is dependent upon the day.

Wednesday, May 13

  • Visit the vibrant Reading Terminal during the Taste of Philly Food Tour. Learn the story behind cheesesteaks, hoagies, pretzels, and other Philly food favorites during this 75-minute, food-writer-led walking tour. The event runs from 10 – 11:15 a.m. Tickets are $15.95 for adults and $8.95 for kids.
  • Joette Wood-Patrick, creator and founder of JO-ET-TICS Line Dance Stretch & Trim, plans to Stomp Out Stigma at 12 p.m. at Love Park. Join her for free line dancing and an abundance of mental health information and resources. Learn more about the road to recovery with this event hosted by Mental Health Matters.
  • Discover and get introduced to designers, photographers, and other artistic professionals from the Fishtown neighborhood. Birchtree Catering is hosting a soiree at Hatchatory perfect for mingling, with seasonally inspired menus and live music from 7 – 10 p.m.

Thursday, May 14

  • Al Dia will host its 14th Annual Diversity Career Fair at The Hub Commerce Square on 2001 Market Street. Whether you’re looking to launch your career after graduating from one of Philadelphia’s many universities, or you’re looking to move on to a new position, bring your resume and business cards! Admission is free and admission with a drink ticket is $5.
  • Independence Blue Cross hosts the 5th Annual Knock Out Homelessness fundraiser benefitting One Step Away, Philadelphia’s newspaper written and distributed by people working to break the cycle of homelessness. Guests will get a chance to meet with celebrity advocates as well as compete in Wii Boxing and other video games, participate in the silent auction, and enjoy food and beverages. Tickets are $75, and the event will be held at Chickie’s and Pete’s in South Philly from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
  • Bar Volver’s Jazz It Up Spotlight is a monthly event that features Philadelphia’s up-and-coming jazz artists as well as established performers from the area artists. Tickets are $10 for a reservation and drink. The event is free for walk-in guests with out a reservation, but limited seating is available.
  • Go behind the scenes with the creators of Serial, the world’s most gripping and popular podcast, as Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder talk crime and modern journalism. Tickets to this event at the Merriam Theater range from $35-55.

Friday, May 15

  • Urban Aesthetics is a visual opening to the ever-expanding possibilities of hip-hop through color, tone, and texture. Admission is free to see G. Farrel Kellum’s exhibit at the University City Arts League, whose opening reception runs from 6 – 8 p.m.
  • The timeless Shakespearean classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed at The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre at 2 and 7 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays until May 17th. Tickets are $20-$35.
  • RASPUTIN’S ROOM is a lavish evening overflowing with burlesque, comedians and spellbinding chanteuses at Ruba on 416 Green Street. The event features a rotating cast of the most alluring performers from up and down the eastern seaboard, including Lil’ Steph, a Philly burlesque performer and producer. Show starts at 10 p.m. with $10 tickets or $12 for VIP seating.

Saturday, May 16

  • The 9th Street Italian Market Festival is coming to South Philadelphia. In addition to the usual vendors and specialty butcher, cheese, gift, and cookware shops lining the market, there will also be street-side merchants selling specially prepared foods just for the festival! Come listen to live entertainment and taste some great food on the 16th and 17th.
  • Connect with 3,000 other girls and become inspired to take action and make a difference in your community at #GirlPOP2015. Engage in this meet-up that will feature an exciting lineup of guest speakers, interactive breakout sessions, a hands-on Hall of Experiences, and plenty of opportunities to meet and connect with thousands of other girls at the PA Convention Center.
  • The Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Festival is the new name for one of the city’s quirkiest spring events, combining the former Trenton Avenue Arts Festival and Kensington Kinetic Derby. Join in for this day-long celebration of the creative spirit and community pride. The event starts at 12 p.m. on Trenton Avenue and Norris Street.
  • Moore College of Art & Design’s Spring Fashion Show will be held for the first time at The Barnes Foundation, housing one of the finest Impressionist collections in the world. Fashion Show 2015: An Evening at The Barnes will take place at 8 p.m. in Annenberg Court. Tickets range from $30-$125.
  • The 3rd Annual Preakness at the Piazza* will return to its Northern Liberties venue to fundraise for a worthy cause, with 100% of the net proceeds benefitting the National MS Society. Purchase your ticket to join in the viewing of the Derby race on the Piazza’s big screens, while enjoying raffles, a buffet, open bar, and dancing. Tickets range from $75-150, and donations are welcome!

Sunday, May 17

  • Liberty Bell Fair presents an open-air artist and makers fair from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 6th and Market streets. Celebrate USA hand-made craft, visual art and fashion at America’s epicenter in historic Philadelphia.
  • The Bridge to Opportunity 5K is Philadelphia’s only 5K across the iconic Ben Franklin Bridge! Proceeds benefit the Veterans Multi-Service Center, the only non-profit agency in Philadelphia and surrounding areas that provides a comprehensive resource center available to all veterans in need. Run or walk to “serve those who served” and provide local veterans with opportunity. Registration is $30.
  • The Ryerss Museum and Library is hosting a Petapalooza from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and all pets are invited! Celebrate the Ryerss’ love of animals with rescue groups, adoption opportunities, treats, a pooch parade, and a special pet exhibit in the museum!
  • Stop by Vango Skybar and Lounge for an afternoon of food, dancing, networking, and fun! All proceeds from this event organized by Project L.I.F.T will go towards a scholarship for a graduating senior attending a 4-year college or university this coming fall. Admission is $35; includes one hour open bar, appetizer buffet, and scholarship donation.
