Top Tech Week and Science Festivals We’re Looking Forward to

The City of Brotherly Love is becoming a growing hub for technology. The science, technology, engineering, and mathematics industries are progressing faster and faster with the help of local startups in Philly. Who would’ve thought that our city would host so many innovative and motivating tech events for people around the country to experience? It’s a growing field, so don’t miss out on what’s in store in the upcoming weeks.

Philly Tech Week

Presented by Comcast and organized by Technical.ly Philly, the 5th annual Philly Tech Week will take place April 17 through April 25, offering 150+ events to attend around the region. The kickoff is this Friday at Dilworth Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Celebrate technology and innovation by checking out the App Arcade, Maker Corner, live music performances, and more! The events are split into six categories, making it easy to find ones that will interest you: Dev, Civic, Creative, Access, Business, and Media. Here are just a few events to look forward to…

  • Innovation Mapped Party by Chevrolet – Sunday, April 19 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
    Attend this party to celebrate Philadelphia’s most exciting tech hubs and our city’s growing innovation economy. Check out the illustrated map of our city’s innovation centers. Show up early to receive a poster version of the map, illustrated by Leslie Zacharkow. Meet members of the locations listed and enjoy casual networking, free beer and light snacks.
  • The Future of Digital Marketing – Tuesday, April 21 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
    If you’re a Marketing/PR professional, this is an event you should definitely attend! Learn how to work through various marketing challenges with these seven trends in digital marketing, and how to piece together current trends in digital marketing to build a digital strategy.
  • Dev Day Conference – Thursday, April 23 8 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
    The full day of events include Dev Day Intro to Workshops, Dev Day Talks, and the Dev Day After Party. Check out the speakers Ricardo Rivera from Klip Collective, Andrew Sutherland from the Mozilla Corporation, Elise Wei from Monetate, and many more!
  • Philly Tech Week Signature Event – Friday, April 24 7:30 – 10 p.m.
    A cocktail reception with an interactive local technology expo and demo party. This year’s event will be held in the lobby and concourse of Comcast, the city’s tallest building. This is a celebration of the broad Philadelphia technology community with all of Philly Tech Week’s attendees, sponsors and organizers.

Philadelphia Science Festival

Another STEM-inspired event is the Philadelphia Science Festival! This nine-day, community-wide celebration of science begins on April 24 and runs through May 2, and concludes with a Science Carnival on the Ben Franklin Parkway! Get involved by becoming a sponsor, volunteer, exhibitor, speaker or even a partner. Tickets are on sale now with different prices for students, adults, educators, and families. Here are just a few events to look forward to…

  • Philadelphia Science Festival Kick-off Party – Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
    The kick-off party will be held at The Franklin Institute with a night devoted to classic video games. Enjoy 40+ interactive activities in this opening night extravaganza and meet the organizations that bring the Festival to life. This event is for adults ages 21 and older.
  • Clark Park Science Discovery Day – Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m.
    Meet local scientists and STEM students and experience the beauty of Clark Park. Participate in hands-on activities and hear about the great research happening all over University City!
  • Educator Workshop: Teach Students Protein Synthesis Using A Hands-On Activity – Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m.
    Calling all middle school, high school, and college instructors: this is your event! Learn how to use this activity to teach students transcription, translation, protein folding, and protein sorting.
  • Gross Anatomy – Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.
    Celebrate all of your secretions with this taboo-breaking cabaret and discover why the things we DON’T discuss at the dinner table are so important to our health! This event is for adults ages 21 and older.

One last note  the Phillies are also teaming up with the Philadelphia Science Festival on Saturday, April 25! On game day against the Atlanta Braves,  kids are allowed to explore throughout the concourse and take part in fun science activities, many of which focus on baseball. Participants will complete tasks at each location to earn stamps on their own Citizens Bank Park map. If five tasks are completed, they can redeem their map for a Philadelphia Science Festival Night presented by Dow water bottle. Buy your tickets here!
