Sweet & Savory Battle

1975190_779916242071417_5443467674963560644_nOn Monday, November 17th, culinary students from across Philadelphia will go head-to-head at the Sweet & Savory: Battle Against Hunger. Cooking up a variety of small plates and desserts in a heated competition, this battle will determine who is truly Philadelphia’s newest up-and-coming culinary star. In order to demonstrate their talents, the students will be faced with the challenge of pairing a sweet dish with a savory dish to be judged by event attendees.

Hosted by the Bethesda Project, this evening has a deeper sense of purpose. In a recent partnership with the Perseverance with Dignity exhibit, the two organizations have created a series of events to accomplish their singular mission. Across our city, the homeless population goes unseen, undernourished and unassisted in trying to change the course of their lives. Believing that we are all members of one family, the mission is to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none.

Having the pleasure to attend Perseverance with Dignity’s First Friday exhibition at National Realty Art Gallery, Philly PR Girl is well versed in Christopher Brown and Scott Parry’s mission to humanize the transient population. They have created a dynamic artistic compilation pairing vivid photography and videography to truly capture the person behind the mask of homelessness.

As these two powerful organizations persist in changing the general public’s perspective of homeless in Philadelphia, they bring to light the underlying humanity of each individual while educating people how we can help bring about true change.

If you have ever wondered how you can help, we urge you to come out for a night of food and fun that will actually make a lasting impact on the lives of our city’s homeless. Tickets for the event are $20 and include food, a wine or beer ticket, and access to National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week’s Premiere of Perseverance with Dignity. All proceeds of the night benefit the Bethesda Project. To purchase tickets, click here.
