18th Annual Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance

Concours d’Elegance” is a French phrase that literally means competition of elegance. On the weekend of September 12th, elegance, beauty and prestige were not lacking in any regard at the 18th Annual Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance.

Dating back to the 17th century, French aristocrats would parade their horse-drawn carriages throughout the streets of Paris during the summer months. Though with the tremendous advances in vehicular transportation over the last four centuries, today’s events feature some more sophisticated automobiles.

This year’s Concours d’Elegance was held at the posh Radnor Hunt Club where Main Line’s finest dine, ride and mingle. Founded in 1883, Radnor Hunt is most known for being the oldest foxhunt in the United States. (Don’t worry they’re more intent on chasing the fox on horseback than actually hunting them.) Sunday’s event was more modern than the old traditional foxhunt. As we quickly fast forward to 2014, attendees drooled over motor vehicles including Maserati, Lamborghini, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Bentley just to name a few.

In stark opposition to the ultra-modern designer cars, the audience had the chance to view something that is exclusive to the Radnor Hunt Club: historic coaches and carriages. This event is the only U.S. Concours d’Elegance to feature these old fashioned beauties. The collection didn’t end there though. Over the hill of the immaculately manicured grounds was an assemblage of classic vehicles.

Without a doubt, the Concours d’Elegance is one of the most prestigious events in our area and is not be missed by those true car connoisseurs. Follow them on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss next year’s event!
