On The Run with Beyonce and Jay Z

This weekend, the city of Philadelphia was graced by the king and queen of hip hop and pop. Boasting an enormous combined repertoire, Jay Z and Beyonce put on a great show. From the choreography and set list to multiple costume changes, the power couple produced an amazing concert at Citizens Bank Park for their On the Run Tour. If you were unable to attend the sold-out show, we have a recap from all different perspectives.

Some may assume I was at a disadvantage having seats that far away from the main stage, however, those seats ended up being just right. As it was the day after the Fourth of July in Philadelphia, there were still tons of fireworks displays going on around the city. It almost seemed as if Beyonce and Jay Z had planned for it, because their songs synced perfectly with the fireworks lighting up the skyline. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine a more magical moment than being serenaded with “Love On Top” while fireworks surrounded Citizens Bank Park. Their show only confirmed that they are more than just performers, they’re storytellers. I felt like they had walked us through the journey of their relationship, from the very beginning to where they are now. For a couple as private as they are, being able to hear their story in their words was truly special to witness.

The show was great! It was really one of the best concerts I’ve seen – very well put together. I feel like they picked the perfect songs and blended their music in very creative ways. The videos that played between the songs were also really cool, and they made wish it was a real movie. The ending of the show was touching and pulled on everyone’s heartstrings just a little bit. It might have been my favorite part.

I am spoiled having worked at music venues and having a lot of friends that still  do because I often have REALLY good seats.  So I was a little worried to have 318  seats, but I soon discovered it was the section to be in! We had a great view of all  the screens and could see “Jayonce” just fine.  Having seen them both before, I  expected to be blown away. And I was… by her outfits, the 43-song setlist, the  way he looked at her, the dancers (including my favorite, Les Twins), and the  venue. All those elements made it a magical night!  With the skyline and fireworks  behind the huge stage I don’t know how the night could have been any better!  My favorite moments included Beyonce singing JT’s part of Holy Grail and Young Forever with the video, the lights, and THAT DRESS! The theme of the show is “Bonnie and Clyde” and they were “on the run,” and let’s just say I would chase them anywhere to see that show again.

When I tell you “On The Run Tour” was the most AMAZING concert I’ve ever attended…I kid you not! On July 5th, 2014 in Philadelphia, I saw Beyonce and Jay-Z  live for the first time ever. Since then I can’t stop thinking about it. I had a field seat so close to the stage that every time Beyonce started singing I thought she was looking at me.  To see them on TV is great, but to actually see them up close in person, it does not compare.  Overall, the show exceeded my expectations and will remain a highlight of my summer!
