Known as America’s most historic square mile, Old City is bursting with modern entertainment, restaurants and nightlife, while simultaneously retaining its classic Americana feel.

Founded in the early 1700s, Old City brings you back to America’s roots, rich with historical landmarks like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and Elfreth’s Alley. Not surprisingly, the neighborhood is home to Philly’s first brewery, built on Front Street in 1683 by William Frampton. Today, Philly is one of America’s greatest beer scenes with local brewpubs like Yards Brewing Company, Philadelphia Brewing Company, and Dock Street Brewing Company.

While the area is steeped in stories of the past, it’s also rife with modern entertainment, shops and nightlife. Probably most well known for its First Friday series, Old City businesses host a variety of events on the first Friday of every month – from special art gallery showings to cider alcohol seminars.

This district has an abundance of places to eat and drink, from upscale restaurants to pubs and wine bars. Panorama Restaurant overlooks the beautiful Delaware River at nighttime and boasts its custom-built, 120-bottle wine dispensing unit, the current Guinness Book of World Records holder. While gastropubs like Victoria Freehouse offer casual British-inspired fare plus fancy cocktails and a variety of beers. True foodies love Iron Chef Jose Garces’ Amada and Stephen Starr’s Buddakan and Continental, all dining staples in Old City.

The Old City neighborhood is also a great place to find one-of-a-kind items, from art to jewelry to furniture; shops like More Than Old are stocked with enough to keep you looking for hours. Pinot Boutique can hook you up with a great bottle of wine and all the accessories you could desire.

Take some time to experience Old City and its mix of beautiful history plus contemporary action. We guarantee that the most historic area in the city will not disappoint.
