Here’s whats going on this week in Philly…

Monday, May 26th

  • Memorial Day Observance – The annual ceremony to honor the “646” KIA during the Vietnam War will begin at 12:30 pm at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, located at Front and Spruce Streets. Retired Ambassador and registered nurse who served as an officer during the war, Theresa Ann Tull, will deliver the keynote address.
  • Memorial Day at the Penn Museum – The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is open on Memorial Day from 10 am through 5pm. Explore three gallery floors of art and artifacts from ancient Egypt, Central America, Asia, Africa, and the ancient Mediterranean World.

Tuesday, May 27th

  • Summer Beauty Blitz – From 5 to 7 pm, stop by the Market & Shops at Comcast Center and receive free makeup, manicures, massages and more. Get ready for summer with eyebrow threading, holistic beauty tips, free wine samplings, and a peruse through the Smak Parlour fashion truck parked outside.
  • The Screwtape Letters – The Lantern Theatre’s latest production is based on C.S. Lewis’ classic story about mid-level demon Screwtape, who sends out letters advising his nephew on the ways to corrupt a human soul. Admission costs $30-38 regularly, with $10 student rush tickets available. Tuesday’s preview performance is $20.

Wednesday, May 28th

  • Take Control of Your Healthcare – Peirce College is set to host a free healthcare workshop from 6 to 7 pm. Learn how to create a personal health record to collect, track, and share information about your health or the health of someone in your care to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • The Great Sandwiches Event – Select from an outstanding lineup of sandwiches in addition to locally sourced wine, beer and liquor at Union Transfer for the inaugural Great Sandwiches event and launch party of Meal Ticket Magazine. Tickets are $35 and the event goes from 6 til 9 pm.

Thursday, May 29th

  • Mural Arts’ Wall Ball – The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program celebrates its 30th year with the annual Wall Ball, a fundraiser at Union Transfer for public arts projects and youth programming. This year’s honorees include Board Chair Joe Goldbum, M Night Shyamalan, and Visionary Artist Awardee Tony Goldman.
  • Quizzo at Memphis Taproom – Join Best of Philly Host JB Farley for a round of Quizzo under the stars at Memphis Taproom. The games go on every Thursday night at 6 pm with no pre-registration required. First prize winner will receive Beer Garden Bucks.

Friday, May 30th

  • VILLA Grand Opening – Premiere sneaker and fashion retailer VILLA is hosting a party for the grand opening of its newest location at 1416 Chestnut Street. Swing by for a live DJ set, free food, VILLA gift card giveaways and more.
  • Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love – View the featured accessories created by the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator’s Designers-in-Residence at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. There will be a cash bar, live music, prizes and giveaways from 6 to 8 pm. Admission is free; RSVP required.

Saturday, May 31st

  • German Society Spring Fling – Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the German Society with a night of dinner and dancing under the stars. The party takes place at the historic Grange Estate in Havertown on the wooded grounds, in the gardens, and in the mansion with an extended porch and piazza.
  • Walnut2Walnut – Challenge your sense of adventure by participating in a 15-mile, two-river regatta, a river-to-river scavenger hunt, or a Saturday stroll on Walnut Street. Engage with the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers and enjoy activities at the Seaport Museum and Boat Shop BBQ.
  • XTU’s 30th Anniversary – Join 92.5 XTU, Philadelphia’s Country Station, to usher in 30 years with an anniversary show at the Susquehanna Bank Center. Doors open at 3 pm and artists will include Dierks Bentley, Chris Young, Lindsay El, the Swon Brothers, and more.

Sunday, June 1st

  • Craft Beer Day on East Passyunk + Italian National Day Festival – Philly Beer Week is kicking off with 12 hours of craft beer events, like outdoor grills, tastings, brunches, and happy hours. Filitalia’s annual outdoor La Festa della Repubblica will also be taking place with Italian street food, entertainment and vendors.
  • Collegiate Rugby Championship – PPL Park brings 20 of the top college rugby teams to University City for the fourth year in a row. The 44 matches will be spread across two days, where tickets are $15-60.
  • 2nd Annual Philly Cycling Classic – Join in the 12-mile circuit or cheer on the participants in this year’s Cycling Classic, while begins and ends at Lyceum Avenue in Manayunk. Cyclists will ride through East Falls, Kelly Drive and Fairmount Park in separate men’s and women’s races to compete for a first prize of $30,000.
