Here’s whats going on this week in Philly!

Monday, April 7th

  • Let Them Eat Cake – City of Hope hosts Philadelphia’s annual wedding cake design competition, open to students, professionals, and those with a passion for baking! Taste samples from over 40 competitors at the DoubleTree Hotel and enjoy live music and complimentary champagne. This year’s decorating theme is Fantasy Weddings.

Tuesday, April 8th

  • Femme & Fortune Presents “From Passion To Business” – Participate in an open panel and Q&A featuring Zoe Rooney, Kristy Mak, and Sullivan Owen – three local entrepreneurs who discuss their struggles and successes of being a female business owner. The program runs from 5:30 to 7:30 pm as part of Philly Tech Week.
  • PhilaMade: Philadelphia Creative Community Show and Tell – Join the PhilaMade creative community at Frankford Hall for a show and tell of some of the projects which are progressing from throughout the region. From 7 to 9 pm, also a part of Philly Tech Week.
  • Phillies Home Opener at Dave & Buster’s – Catch the first home game of the season in the new sports bar at Dave & Buster’s. Grab some food and drinks while the Phils take on the Milwaukee Brewers at 3 pm, and take advantage of Power Hour from 4:30 to 7 pm with 60 minutes of video game play for only $10.

Wednesday, April 9th

  • Caribbean Cuisine Week – From Wednesday through Friday, grab some grub inspired by the tastes of Trinidad, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Bahamas and Grenada and benefit the Young Friends of Team Jamaica for the 2014 Penn Relays. Participating restaurants include Sabrina’s Cafe, Rosa Blanca, 4 Fathers Philadelphia and the Jamaican Jerk Hut.
  • Johnny Popcorn – This sarcastic and funky rock and roll duo from Philly presents at the Trocadero in support of their newest album, “The Crow”, with openers James Allen, Drunkenesia, Vent, and Chess. Doors open at 8 pm and the show starts at 8:30. Tickets are $7-9 for 21+.

Thursday, April 10th

  • Melbourne Madness with Will Sparks at District N9NE –  This new club is hosting some really cool events and this one is sure to be packed!
  • Grand Opening of Giovanni & Pileggi – Rittenhouse Square’s “Best of Philly” and “Best of Style” hair salon has relocated to Midtown at 308 S 12th Street.   • They’re Playing Our Song – When mega-successful Tony and Academy-Award winning Marvin Hamlisch hires a the kooky and insecure Carol Bayer Sager as a lyricist, their match seems anything but one made in heaven. This musical love story tells the real life tale of one of America’s greatest song-writing teams of the 20th century, penned by the composer and lyricist, playing at the Adrienne Theatre’s Skybox.

Friday, April 11th

  • No Place to Go – As part of the Kimmel Center’s celebration of Jazz, Ethan Lipton and His Orchestra arrive for a live performance of jazz, blues, and country mixed with a narrative that is largely modern. Lipton’s company decides to move to another planet, and the musical show that progresses is part love letter to his co-workers, part query to the universe, and part protest to company and country as an ode to the unemployed.
  • Laidback Luke at LIT UltraBar – Devoted to his fans and with a non-stop party from the studio to the stage, the Dutch icon, Laidback Luke pins the map on every corner, powering dance music in his tracks and his next stop is Philly! The Dutch innovator in dance music is taking over LiT UltraBar from 10 pm ‘til 3:30 am.

Saturday, April 12th

  • Manayunk StrEAT Festival and Restaurant Week – From 11 am – 5 pm, enjoy eats down Manayunk’s Main Street from Philly’s best food truck vendors, selections from farmer’s markets, and bites from local restaurants. Then make a full meal out of it during Restaurant Week with 3-course prix fixe menus at $15, $25 and $35, taking place from April 13th through 25th.
  • Give Kids Sight Day – From 8:30 am until 2 pm, come walk-in and give your child ages 18 or under a free eye exam and glasses. No appointments or health insurance necessary. First come, first served at the Dorrance H. Hamilton Building at 1001 Locust Street.
  • Rockin’ Docs – 95.7 BenFM’s Marilyn Russell hosts the 4th annual benefit concert for Rockin’ Docs for Diabetes Cure. Performances by local bands whose ensembles are made of doctors from local hospitals will take place at World Cafe Live, and all profits will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Show starts at 7:30 and tickets are $27-30.

Sunday, April 13th

  • I’m From Driftwood Spring Break Brunch Fundraiser – Imbibe in bloody mary’s, beer, mimosas, and brunch food outside in the courtyard at the LGBT-friendly John C. Anderson Apartments. There will be live jazz music featuring performers from OutBeat, the nation’s first queer jazz festival, and raffle and silent auction prizes benefitting “I’m From Driftwood”. Tickets are $50; $75 after April 7th and at the door.
  • The Winners Circle II – Step into the Winners Circle with some of Philly’s hottest R&B acts for round two of the Underground Arts’ showcase, running from 7 pm to 12 am.. Part two includes Motown recording artists MPrynt, blazing hot girl group Good Girl, soulful crooner Jeremy Isaac and sultry R&B/pop diva Phoenix. Tickets are $15-20.
  • The Autism Awareness Walk – Meet up at Holy Family University at 9 am for a day of fun to raise awareness about autism. All are welcome to join in the 5K walk and participate in activities, dance to music, and win prizes. A $10 donation is requested to benefit local non-profit organization SeanMe.
  • Mad Men Watching Party at Pennsylvania 6!  Enjoy cocktails such as The Draper (bourbon, aromatic bitters, raw sugar syrup and citrus peel), The Sterling (Stoli, Lillet and orange bitters), The Joan (bourbon, grapefruit juice and honey syrup) and The Peggy (rye, apple brandy, yellow chartreuse)!
