Here’s whats going on this week in Philly…

Monday, March 24th

  • Aldine Preview – Chef George Sabatino, who has crafted many temporary eateries in the last couple years including Boot & Saddle, Morgan’s Pier and the Lodge at Winterfest, is finally returning to a mainstay restaurant at Aldine. Sample a four-course dinner from his upcoming menu at Cheu Noodle Bar for $55 a piece from 6 to 9 pm.

Tuesday, March 25th

  • Arts Advocacy Day Phone Bank – “Go Forth By Phone” and speak up for representation of the arts and culture in the U.S. on National Arts Advocacy Day. Help our community members in Washington, D.C. by coming in during your lunch break and making calls to legislators with the GroundSwell team. You bring your phone or laptop, and they’ll provide the script!
  • Greek Independence Day at Opa – For $25/person, enjoy a four-course prix-fixe lunch or dinner at Midtown’s Greek eatery, Opa. Dishes include breads and spreads, saganaki, baklava or beignets, and the national Greek Independence Day dish, Bakaliaros Me Skordalia. An optional $25 wine or spirit pairing is also available, and the Bekris cocktail will be $5 all day.

Wednesday, March 26th

  • Indie Music Fest – THORTakeover Records brings a showcase of independent music to the Trocadero, open to the general public, 21+. Doors open at 9 pm and the open mic segment begins at 9:30, after which Flair will open the DJ set, and 8 live performances will go on through the night.
  • Wine Down Wednesdays at Stratus – Indigo Bleu Design Concepts hosts a weekly mixer at the Stratus rooftop bar lounge at Hotel Monaco. For $20, wind down with complimentary apps and a wine tasting menu while experiencing live jazz music and art in an intimate, upscale setting.

Thursday, March 27th

  • BLEED at Fringe Arts – New York’s hot choreographer Tere O’Connor collapses three of his dance pieces into a single hybrid performance, blending dancers, ideas, and approaches into a solo, stunning work. The show runs for three nights, and tickets are $29 general admission, and $20 for students and patrons aged 25 and younger.

Friday, March 28th

  • TedxPhiladelphia – Insightful TedxTalks will venture to Philadelphia for a day-long workshop of championship ideas that revolve around the theme of “The New Workshop of the World”. Presenting at Temple University’s Performing Arts Center will be Helen Gym, Stephen Klasko, Austin Seraphin, Sonia Sanchez, and Josh Nims, among many others.
  • Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American – The newest exhibit at the National Museum of American Jewish History explores the stories of Jews and other minorities whose involvement in the baseball leagues molded them as role models throughout American culture. Tickets are $12 for adults and free for children under the age of 12.

Saturday, March 29th

  • Frogs: Nature’s Messenger – Come face to face with 20 tiny, exotic creates at the Camden Adventure Aquarium. Now through April 27th, you can learn about curious amphibians in an exhibit that’s perfect for the whole family.
  • Big Band Swing Dance – The Philadelphia Swing Dance Society is hosting a full-blown swing dance party, complete with live music by The Walt Wagner Big Band. There will be warm-ups and workshops all afternoon on the Jitterbug, Lindy Hop, and Savory Lindy, and the party begins at 8:45 pm.
  • Philadelphia Funny Songs Fest – Over 25 comedy musicians will compete in a funny song marathon from 9 to 10:30 pm at the 3rd and Girard Bar. Following from 11 pm ‘til midnight will be a night of dirty songs. The two-day event will continue through Sunday with a comedy musical showcase and final party. Tickets are $5!

Sunday, March 30th

  • 16th Annual Ocean Drive Marathon – Take a scenic tour of Cape May County, NJ in this 26.2-mile marathon through paved road and boardwalk. Walk or run over four drawbridges through Victorian Cape May City, Wildwoods island, Stone Harbor, Avalon, and the Promenade on Sea Isle City.
  • Fishtown Chili Cookoff presented by the Fishtown Neighbors Association.  The cook-off brings the best of Fishtown’s restaurants and  amateur chili chefs at Skybox Studios from 1pm to 4pm.
  • PPAC Book Fair 2014 – Local, national and international presses, publishers and artists will be in attendance at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center’s 5th annual book fair to sell books, prints and other goods from 12 to 6 pm. Check online to see the full list of artist talks and presentations which will be held over the weekend.
  • World’s Greatest Women’s Workshop – The Urban Defense Center hosts an active workshop to support the physical, emotional, and mental lives of women during WOmen’s History Month. Highlights include personal protection, fitness, stress reduction and overall well-being. Dress comfortably in sneakers!
  • The Love Run – Alex’s Lemonade Stand presents a Philadelphia half marathon to fight childhood cancer. Apply online as an individual or a team; there is no registration fee, and the fundraising minimum is $500.
