Spring is in the Air

Has it really been two full weeks with only an accumulated 5 inches of snowfall? For 2014 in Philadelphia, that’s as good a time as any to be considered springtime. Now that we’ve past the hurdle of Daylight Savings and are crossing into the official spring calendar, we’re antsy to get outside and enjoy this time of the year for however long or short it lasts. Here are just 10 ways we plan on kicking back and soaking up those extra few hours of daylight!

1. Watching our boys get warmed up on home turf at the end of the month, when the Phillies go up against the Pittsburgh Pirates during Spring Training season.

2. Competing in the world’s tallest video game during Philly Tech Week. Who’s up for Tetris on the Circa Centre building?

3. Sipping tea, making sushi, and watching the Tamagawa Taiko Drum and Dance troupe perform at this year’s 2014 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival.

4. Getting a group together to Paint the Town and make our mark on the City of Brotherly Love with expert mural artists from the Mural Arts Center.

5. Participating in the World Water Day 5K. Because, let’s be honest, the best motivation for promoting clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education is having to spend a few hours along the Schuylkill River.

6. Munching on delectable variations of fungi at the Awbury Arboretum’s 4-hour long Edible Fungi Workshop.

7. Feasting our eyes on Pantone’s hot Color of the Year (as it appears in the wild, versus in synthetic fabrics) at Longwood Gardens’ Orchid Extravaganza, running through the 30th.

8. Getting handsy with the Eastern State Penitentiary’s sensory Hands-on-History tour, which includes a game of bocce ball, stroll through the synagogue, soup alley and punishment rooms, and a real-life prison break.

9. Having our expectations shattered at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens’ newest mosaic exhibition, a collaboration in conjunction with the Mosaic Society of Philadelphia debuting right on the heels of the venue’s 75th birthday.

10. Taking a spin on one of the Big Red Pedal Tours’ equally ridiculous and amazing-looking group party bikes. Blasting loud music and obnoxiously waving to pedestrians as we bike all through Center City? We want in.
