HERE’S WHATS GOING ON THIS WEEK IN PHILLY!

Monday, March 17th – Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

  • 17th Anniversary Party at Finnegan’s Wake – Celebrate lucky number 17 with amazing drink and Irish car bomb specials from 8 pm until 2 am. $10 tickets are still available, or enjoy a 2-hour VIP open bar from 10 to midnight.
  • Arcade Fire at the Wells Fargo Center – This Grammy-winning Canadian group brings the Reflektor Tour to Philly in promotion of their new album. Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30 pm with opening acts Dan Deacon and Kid Koala. Tickets are $30, $50, and $70.

Tuesday, March 18th

  • “The Backyard Philly Project” Screening – The Philadelphia Film Society hosts a preview screening of this local film as part of the Filmadelphia at the Roxy series. Director and Drexel graduate Amanda Danzinger explores the life of four teens growing up in “Penn Town” Philadelphia, with the chance to ask questions and give feedback at the end of the showing.
  • Colors and Bottles at Bob and Barbara’s – Grab a cocktail and a paintbrush and learn from local artists of all skill levels how to create paintings with provided supplies in a stress-free social setting. From 5:30 to 8:30 pm; tickets are $30 and there will be live music afterwards.

Wednesday, March 19th

  • Phantom of the Opera – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical comes to the Academy of Music from March 19th to April 12th on its North American tour. The production includes a cast and full orchestra of 52, marking this production’s commitment to The Phantom’s musical’s legacy. Tickets run from $30 to $160.
  • Arsenic and Old Lace – Sisters Abby and Martha Brewster are known throughout the community for their generosity, but their newly-engaged nephew discovers that his aunts have a habit of inviting old men over for a cocktail of wine with arsenic and cyanide. The Walnut Street Theatre brings this hilariously dark comedic to their mainstage from March 19th through April 27th, where tickets are $65-75, and $20 for anyone 24 or younger.

Thursday, March 20th

  • “Sliver of Light: Three Americans Imprisoned in Iran” – The Global Philadelphia Association and Free Library of Philadelphia host a visit with the authors of this incredible true story of when they were arrested and detained in Tehran’s infamous Evin Prison for unknowingly crossing the border into Iran. The event begins at 7:30 pm and tickets are $10.
  • Vodka Tasting Business Mixer – Mix business and pleasure with a tasting of premium vodkas from Vikingfjord Vodka USA, Death’s Door Spirits, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka while snacking on hors d’oeuvres and mingling with other socialites. From 6 to 8:30 pm at The Racquet Club of Philadelphia. $35 for non-members, and dresscode is business casual.

Friday, March 21st

  • * ConKerr Cancer PJ Party – Experience the Please Touch Museum like never before! Take your family out to join children and teens with childhood cancer as they get away from the hospital for a special night of fun, that includes a dance party and live DJ, pajama parade, and visits from local celebrities, Eagles mascot SWOOP and animals from the Philadelphia Zoo. Each $25 ticket will double as admission for a child with a life-changing illness to attend. PJs are mandatory!
  • New Hope and Lambertville Restaurant Week – Currently in its 5th year, journey out to New Hope or across the river in Lambertville to enjoy the nice weather and dinner specials offered from March 16 to 21. 29 restaurants in the area are participating in prixe fix menus priced at $19.95/person for casual and $29.95 fine dining.
  • Costumes of “Downton Abbey” – Forty pieces from the popular television show are currently on display at the Winterthur Museum. The historical costumes are joined with photographs and vignettes inspired by the production. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors/students and $5 for children ages 2-11.

Saturday, March 22nd

  • * Shut up and Dance 2014 – Support MANNA in their mission to provide free food for those in the Philadelphia community with critical illness in their yearly benefit performance put on by members of the Pennsylvania Ballet. There will be a VIP party beforehand, and the after party will be held at Pennsylvania 6 with WXPN DJ Robert Drake. Tickets are $25-100 and the show begins at 8 pm at the Forrest Theatre.
  • American Wisdom – The opening reception of Katherine Fraser and Steven Mogck’s exhibit at the James Oliver Museum takes place from 6 to 10 pm. Preview their paintings and mixed media works which provide an insight into the emotional perception of American life.
  • Bark in the Bowl – The Celebrate Mad Dogs’ birthday with a special game of the Wings vs. Toronto Rock at the Wells Fargo Center. Each ticket grants fans and their dog exclusive access to the upper level dog section, where they can mingle with other dog lovers while cheering on the team.

Sunday, March 23rd

 

  • Philly Wine Week – From the 23rd to 30th, imbibe in a range of diverse reds and whites at any of the dozens of events held at favorite bars and restaurants throughout Center City. Contact the participating wine venues directly for information on ticket prices, reservations, and additional information.   • “Shop To U Drop” Girls Night Out – Grab a bite to eat, shop, and have a few glasses of your favorite drink at Nick’s Roast Beef Bar and Grille in Old City. This free event runs from 5:30 til 9 pm and includes drink specials, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.
  • No Point Pouting: Benefit Concert – MilkBoy is hosting a showcase to benefit the arts in Philadelphia with a line-up of awesome artists, including Swedeland, Superhero Swagg, and Guaclobster. Enjoy drink specials, a silent auction and giveaways during the show, beginning at 5 pm.
