Monday, March 3rd

  • Paella & Sangria Night at Jamonera – For $35 per person, enjoy dishes for the table to share, a paella for two, and a pitcher of sangria at Jamonera on 13th Street. Call or go online to make your reservations!
  • Scratch Night at FringeArts – Grab a beer, sit back and enjoy a “smorgasbord” of new and bold local performances. This month’s entertainers include members from the Groundswell Theatre Company, AntiGravity Theatre Project, New Paradise Laboratories, and more. Free show and beer, show starts at 7 pm.

Tuesday, March 4th

  • Annual Karneval Party – Tuesday is your last day to partake in traditional Kölsch food and beer specials at Brauhaus Schmitz! In addition to live performances by The Ron Nolen Experience and Big in Munich, the winner of a grand trip prize to Oktoberfest will be announced. Complimentary apps will be served all night.
  • Mardi Gras Celebration at Alliance Francaise – Celebrate Mardi Gras and the 110th anniversary of The Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie with a party at Alliance headquarters at 14th and Walnut. Included in the ticket price are sweet and savory crepes from La Creperie Cafe, wine and cider, and French music by DJ Chuck Rock. Dress in costume with beads and feathers, and enter in a raffle drawing for one week in an apartment in Paris.

Wednesday, March 5th

  • Wedding Wednesday at the PHS Flower Show – Brides-to-be and bridesmaids can solicit advice and enjoy sample take-aways from more than 50 local experts on wedding fashion, music, catering, honeymoon planning, and more. At the Philadelphia Flower Show from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday only.
  • 2014 Flamenco Festival – Between March 3rd and 16th, Pasión y Arte will host lectures, film screenings, and master classes in addition to feature performances of modern feminist flamenco artist Rosario Toledo and Israel Galván, winner of the 2012 Gold Medal in Fine Arts from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

Thursday, March 6th

  • Girls Night Out at the Flower Show- Enjoy a special evening tailored just for the ladies, featuring exclusive food samplings, health and beauty tutorials, shopping with Philadelphia’s most coveted retailers, raffle prizes, takeaways and more! Sponsored by Philadelphia Style Magazine.
  • Carmina Burana and Stravinsky Violin Concerto – Celebrate the Pennsylvania Ballet’s 50th Anniversary season with a contemporary performance of the John Butler’s classic story, “Carmina Burana”. The show features a live orchestra and songs by The Philadelphia Singers and ChildrenSong New Jersey, and opens with a premiere of George Balanchine’s black and white ballet, “Stravinsky Violin Concerto”.
  • Women’s History Month at the National Constitution Center – Throughout the month of March, explore the history of the women’s suffrage movement through an interactive decoding of the lyrics to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”. The exhibit is free with museum admission, whose permanent We The People showroom includes a judicial robe worn by previous Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and a collection of artifacts from Susan B. Anthony and the movement for women’s suffrage.

Friday, March 7th

  • Paul Simon & Sting at the Wells Fargo Center – Two musical legends come together to perform in Philadelphia en route through their North American Tour. Doors open at 7 and the show starts at 8 pm. Tickets are priced at $40, $80, $125 and $250.
  • doug elkins choreography, etc. – From March 6 through 8, Doug Elkins’ hip hop and contemporary dance routine plays at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Steeped in parody, his witty and inventive pieces include “Mo(or)town/Redux” – a twist on Shakespeare’s “Othello” to the Motown tunes of Stevie Wonder, Amy WInehouse, and Marvin Gaye – and “Hapless Bizarre” which intertwines physical comedy and choreography in silent film.

Saturday, March 8th

  • Craft Beer Express – All aboard! From 11 am through 7 pm, chug along from bar to bar with a ride from the express car to get you to 12 locations throughout the day. Participating bars include The Institute, Pub on Passyunk East, Kite and Key, Johnny Brenda’s and Kraftwork. Tickets are $10.
  • Native American voices at the Penn Museum – Uncover the rich history and identity of the Native American people through over 200 objects on display and multimedia stations, showcasing contemporary tribes and the ways in which they have preserved their traditions, rituals, and independence.
  • In Bloom: The Fashion for Florals – Spend your Saturday at Drexel University’s Historic Costume Collection for an extended look at floral styles throughout the centuries. The seminar begins at 9:45 am and includes a lecture/presentation by curator Clare Sauro, light refreshments, and an exclusive look at examples of historic floral garments in the exhibit. All ticket proceeds benefit the Costume Collection, which houses over 12,000 garments, textiles, and materials.

Sunday, March 9th

  •  The Brewer’s Plate 10th Anniversary – Celebrate 10 years of the beer and food pairing movement in Philadelphia with one of the first to introduce the trend. Chefs, farmers, brewers, distillers, winemakers, and food artisans will all come together for Philadelphia’s local beer and food pairing festival, held at the Kimmel Center and beginning at 5:30 pm. This year promises celebrity guests, exclusive brews, and plenty of surprises.
  •  Newport Jazz Festival – America’s first jazz festival celebrates 60 years with a multi-generational tour, set to stop in Philadelphia on March 9 at 8 pm. This year’s all-star ensemble, put together by founding 87-year-old founding producer George Wein, includes clarinetist and saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist Karrin Allyson, five-time Grammy-winning trumpet player Randy Brecker, and more, with songs spanning the ages, from jazz legends Louis, Duke and Miles, to styles of Latin, Brazilian, and fusion.
  • Girard Avenue Bridge with Mural Arts – Painters of all skill levels and abilities are welcome to help the Mural Arts Program in their newest project: The Philadelphia Rowing Mural, consisting of one mural on each side of the Schuylkill, facing each other under the Girard Avenue Bridge. Come and get your paint brush wet between 12 and 2 pm!
